The opening for Solo Leveling: Karma, just released, is creating massive waves in the gaming world. This explosive preview, animated by A-1 Pictures, premiered at G-STAR 2025 in Busan and depicts 27 years of Sung Jinwoo's untold war against the Monarchs. The preview also reveals Bellion's official anime design, has Jinwoo in his child-like godly form, and depicts scenes from plotlines that will not occur until way later in Season 4 of the anime.

Solo Leveling: Karma shows the dimensional gap timeline between the end of the manhwa and Solo Leveling: Ragnarok. Netmarble's upcoming RPG will dive into the story content that has never been fully detailed in the original source material. The quality of animation is comparable to the main series, and has much of the key staff from Season 2 working on the storyboards, as well as character designs.

What Makes the Solo Leveling: Karma Opening Special?

The opening sequence features creative talents at the forefront, with Yūya Horiuchi and Yoshihiro Kanno as storyboard artists and creative directors, Tomoko Sudo leading the character design, and Shibito as animation director. The quality of the animation remains on par with the main anime series, fully maintaining A-1 Pictures' goal of visual consistency.

The opening sequence features Sung Jinwoo as a child, much different from how we normally see him. This design choice reflects that specific point in the lore where Jinwoo's powers are godly. The game's timeline runs through 27 years; the timeline was only referenced in the final arc of the Solo Leveling manhwa. This creative gap in the narrative offers unique content to fans.

Solo Leveling: Karma occurs years after the conclusion of the anime, but before the start of Solo Leveling: Ragnarok (the sequel series). The game covers Jinwoo's extended struggle against the Monarchs. This occurrence was mostly untold and unnoticed in the original manhwa and light novel.

The opening does feature several big spoilers for viewers who have only watched the anime. Note that some of the scenes show events that we can expect for Season 4 instead of Season 3.

One of the most anticipated reveals is of Bellion's anime design. Bellion is the Grand Marshall of Sung Jinwoo's Shadow Army. In the opening sequence, we see Bellion using his signature whip-like sword in battle against the Monarch minions. His design sticks closely to that of the manhwa but also keeps in line with A-1 Pictures' style of animation.

A-1 Pictures chose not to show any scenes from Solo Leveling Season 3 in the opening. This is likely an indication that A-1 Pictures is working on the third season. The restrictions on showing footage of Solo Leveling Season 3 could indicate that the company is saving Season 3 content for an official announcement or for a public release.

Furthermore, Netmarble put 2 billion won ($1.44 million USD) of investment into the Solo Leveling anime production committee. This investment puts A-1 Pictures into a connection not only with Solo Leveling: Karma but also with the Solo Leveling brand, which is already growing.

Because A-1 Pictures is tied to the Solo Leveling brand, whether it is through both anime and game projects from a production standpoint, it would strengthen the credibility of the Solo Leveling brand. The production values of this existing opening capture the overall production value that viewers can expect in a desirable worldwide anime.

Solo Leveling continues to break records and capture global attention. While Season 3 has not officially premiered, Solo Leveling: Karma gives fans an opportunity to check out something new.
