In the world of One Piece, Eiichiro Oda has introduced the concept of Devil Fruits. When someone eats one of these fruits, they end up gaining a powerful ability. The only downside being they would lose their ability to swim. Among the more unusual yet surprisingly potent Devil Fruits is the Wara Wara no Mi, the Straw-Straw Fruit. In this article, we will explore everything to know about this fruit.

The Wara Wara no Mi (Straw-Straw Fruit) is eaten by Basil Hawkins, and it has given him the ability to create and manipulate straw. It is easy to look past these powers as these are neither flashy nor dangerous. However, in the right hands, this fruit becomes an incredibly versatile and durable weapon in the world of One Piece.

Basil Hawkins is the captain of one of the worst generations of pirates known as the Hawkins Pirates. Before the time skip, he was introduced as one of the promising rookie pirates entering the New World. Later, he allied himself with Kaido under pressure.

Hawkins in One Piece can generate large amounts of straw at will and use it to create weapons or extensions of his body. His most notable construct is the straw monster or voodoo effigy, which is massive and highly resilient. It can punch, slam, and crush enemies with considerable force.

These constructs make Hawkins seem supernatural, as if he’s summoning otherworldly entities in battle. They also add to the horror vibe that surrounds him. Although not directly linked to the Devil Fruit, Hawkins uses a deck of cards that helps him determine the outcome of battles or choices.

If we were to compare this Devil Fruit's powers to understand how strong it is, then it would not be seen as one of the strongest. However, it deserves respect for its strategic complexity, supporting capabilities, and psychological power.

The powers can be useful only when used in a group setting and against opponents who don't know how Basil’s power works. Wara Wara no Mi would not stand a chance against someone like Zoro or Killer.

After Hawkins is defeated in Wano in One Piece and his tragic motivations are revealed, he is last seen on the verge of death, admitting he knew his fate all along. Whether he dies for good remains unknown in the manga, but his role as a major threat is over.

The reintroduction of Wara Wara no Mi in the Wano Arc in One Piece

In the Wano Country Arc, Hawkins showed his abilities. He worked for Kaido and the Beast Pirates, joining the Yonko because he wanted to live. This choice put him against the Straw Hats, Heart Pirates, along with Wano's rebels. Highlights from Wano include: capturing Law and using straw dolls to ensure he couldn’t retaliate. Hawkins threatened Law using Beppo and other Heart Pirate members.

Fighting Killer, where Hawkins redirected damage to Kid, forcing Killer to choose between harming Hawkins or harming his captain. A brutal show of his power came about at this time. Hawkins loses when the people he uses are free, and he has no more dolls. This proves that he is not unbeatable.

These scenes in One Piece deepened the tragic side of Hawkins’ character. He wasn’t entirely evil, but just someone cornered by overwhelming power who sacrificed others to survive. His reliance on fate and numbers showed how far he had fallen from his initial ambition.

In conclusion, Wara Wara no Mi might not have been the strongest Devil Fruit in One Piece, but it definitely had an interesting concept. With its roots in traditional folklore and symbolic weight, the fruit exemplifies how Oda blends narrative depth with combat mechanics.
