One Piece theory: Loki, Nidhogg, and the Devil Fruit Oda does not want us to see yet

Eiichiro Oda's One Piece has been a constant part of the anime community as the creator has built a story on visual storytelling. Moreover, the creator is also infamously known to gatekeep information and lore for decades before fans have some confirmation with either a character or an event. So, the best thing fans end up doing is to go to some anime forums and come up with some absurd theories and speculation. This has become a ritual in the fandom because they get barely any hints from the mangaka, and so fans take it on themselves to crack the secrets.

Sometimes these end up becoming accurate predictions, but mostly they end up being a fun fan discussion piece. Right now, there is one active theory, and it is about Loki’s true Devil Fruit and even his real form; it has already been shown but deliberately blocked from view by Franky.

At the center of this One Piece theory is the massive mural depicting Elbaph’s mythology. While fans agree that nearly the entire image has been revealed, one detail stands out: Franky is positioned directly in the middle, conveniently covering a specific portion of the mural. For a story as intentional as One Piece, coincidence feels unlikely.

Loki, the accursed prince, and a hidden god in One Piece

One thing we already knew about Loki is that he is not an ordinary giant. His character is literally the prince of Elbaph who has unfortunately been branded with the title of Accursed Prince and The Same of Elbaph. Interestingly, his character was widely misunderstood for the longest period of time in One Piece. All because he killed his father, but according to the events of Chapter 1170, it turns out that he had to kill his father for the sake of their kingdom.

Harald was under Imu's influence and would have caused havoc on that island. Unfortunately, others did not know this, and this half information made everyone dislike this character. What we do know is alarming. Loki’s transformation is colossal, even by giant standards. He grows clawed hands, overwhelms Harald with ease, and forces powerhouses like Shanks and Scopper Gaban into stalling tactics rather than outright combat. Oda has deliberately kept Loki’s full Zoan form in silhouette, an unmistakable red flag in One Piece storytelling.

Nidhogg, Fenrir, or something else entirely?

The mural theory splits fans into camps. Some believe Loki’s true form represents Nidhogg, the dragon that gnaws at the roots of Yggdrasil in Norse mythology. If so, the creature should logically appear beneath the world tree, exactly where the mural’s obscured section lies. There is a fraction of fans who have strongly disagreed with this theory by claiming that Loki's character is more aligned with Fenrir. But that is not all, as the third fraction of fans feel like it could be something entirely different, but because it was blocked by Franky, chances are that it was a deliberate move by Oda, as it seems like he is going to introduce something huge.

Final thoughts

Moreover, there have been many readers who feel uneasy with the fact that Eiichiro Oda had covered a panel of the mural with Franky. It seems like the creator cannot resist himself to keep a few secrets for longer so that the payoff feels satisfying. Whether Loki in One Piece is Nidhogg, Fenrir, a Forest God, or something entirely new, one thing is clear: Oda has not shown us everything yet, and Franky standing in the way may be the loudest clue of all.
