The One Punch Man series has an array of interesting characters that fans were introduced to from the get-go. There are plenty of heroes in the series that netizens love. However, there is a recurring trend in most Shonen titles - the introduction of so-called heroes whose behavior is extremely suspicious. One such character in the One Punch Man series is Metal Knight. This is the hero alias of a scientist named Dr. Bofoi. He hasn't received much screen time in the anime adaptation, but other heroes maintain their distance from him.
From the beginning, how Metal Knight interacts with people is quite odd. When the meteor was heading towards Earth, Metal Knight retreated shortly after firing a few missiles. He could have helped, but the incoming meteor seemed inconsequential to him. Furthermore, Drive Knight also warned Genos to be careful of Metal Knight.
When such interactions take place in One Punch Man, fans are bound to be suspicious of the aforementioned character. Additionally, anime-only fans might be shocked to hear that Metal Knight, Drive Knight, and Genos might be connected in the series. Drive Knight and Genos are both cyborgs. This is one of the first similarities we notice in the One Punch Man series.
As the series progressed, fans started to believe that Metal Knight might be related to Genos’s past. Genos became a cyborg because Dr. Kuseno took him in and fitted cybernetic parts that kept him alive. Another important thing to note is that Genos’s entire village was killed, by a cyborg that went berserk.

In this way, Drive Knight shares an interesting similarity with Genos in One Punch Man is his past. His village was also destroyed by a cyborg that went berserk. Given the fact that Drive Knight has been in the Hero Association for a long time, he knows Dr. Bofoi’s unending greed for power. Even the Hero Association does not trust Dr. Bofoi, giving both of them reason to doubt Dr. Bofoi's intentions.
Unfortunately, they don’t have a choice since he was the one who provided all their technology, and hence has access to all of it. However, fans have reason to believe that Metal Knight was responsible for the creation of a mad cyborg that ultimately killed Genos and Drive Knight’s villages.
One Punch Man: How could Metal Knight have played a role in Genos and Drive Knight’s pasts?
Dr. Bofoi is someone who doesn’t look at morality while developing machinery for advanced warfare. Even in the real world, some ethics specialists work with scientists to slow down or halt the advancement of technology based on its potential outcome. However, Dr. Bofoi isn’t that person. In fact, the webcomic also showed that he took Boros’ body back to his laboratory. Genos confirmed that there was no brain activity. However, the scientist was quite comfortable using Boros’ body to create a mindless killing machine.
He has conducted several experiments to develop some of the most lethal weapons that are a part of his arsenal. Dr. Bofoi’s creation of a cyborg that went berserk isn’t completely outside the realm of reality. While his intentions might not have been to create a mad cyborg, coding errors are bound to happen at all times. The creation of a mad cyborg could have been due to negligence or to test the boundaries of what a cyborg is capable of.
One Punch Man fans might also argue that Dr. Bofoi tried restoring a person’s life by fitting these prosthetic bits, and it ultimately went south. The mad cyborg in One Punch Man could be the result of Dr. Bofoi’s inability to give a critically injured being another chance.
Dr. Bofoi appears to be a nefarious character with ulterior motives. Given his expansive capabilities in the field of robotics, there is a good chance that he created the aforementioned mad cyborg. This creation connects him to Genos and Drive Knight, whose villages were destroyed by the same entity.
