One Punch Man Season 3 is currently one of the most disliked anime, and it does not seem like the production house can do anything anymore to save its reputation. Since this season started to air, fans were asked to keep expectations low, but looking at the quality of the animation, it feels like the team did not even try to match its source. This has caused frustration in the hearts of everyone because it is not like J.C. Staff is known to release subpar anime series.

Within just seven episodes, the backlash for Season 3 has reached a boiling point. What should have been the triumphant return of one of the most hype-inducing anime of the 2010s has instead become a harsh lesson in production shortcuts, mismanaged schedules, and misplaced priorities. And the loudest takeaway from fans is them vocalising similar emotions of “OPM simply is not J.C. Staff’s priority.”

This sentiment in fandom has escalated since a fan posted a clip of a Danmachi fight, which is animated by the same studio, that went viral, with fans questioning how a fantasy show received better treatment than a flagship shonen title like One Punch Man.

Fans immediately have vocalized that frustration. Many have constantly pointed to how the early episodes of One Punch Man Season 3 looked unfinished, with lifeless action sequences, clunky movement, low-detail frames, and scenes that felt more like PowerPoint slideshows than animation. A fan on X, @kazadorI, has added:

"They were simply given a budget for a less than C-tier anime, that's all. No fault to the actual animators; they didn't decide how much to spend on it or when the deadlines were set."

There have been others who insisted the problem wasn’t just animation quality, but it was the complete lack of production value. The episodes from One Punch Man Season 3 are infamous talked about for having murky coloring to flat lighting, and questionable sound effects that left even the better cuts feeling underwhelming. Another netizen on X, @Gking270, continued to point out:

"It's clear that production on season 3 started this year, and their best animators were already busy with other projects. JC Staff, which loves to "drown" itself in work, took on OPM3 clearly without the necessary resources to handle this production +"

The situation has gotten so bad that One Punch Man Season 3 episodes have started hitting record-low IMDb scores, dipping as far as 1.4, one of the lowest-rated anime episodes ever. For a series that once defined modern sakuga, it’s a shocking fall from grace.

Why is One Punch Man Season 3 not getting positive reviews?

Without getting technical, there are a few reasons why One Punch Man Season 3 is not receiving positive criticism. The answer to this question is a combination of:

  • Low priority inside the studio
  • Budget constraints
  • Tight deadlines
  • Conflicting commitments (like Danmachi)
  • Production committee mismanagement
  • Lack of experienced action animators
  • Fan pressure and toxic discourse

And all of this is happening in a season that adapts some of the most explosive moments in the entire manga. Whether J.C. Staff can somehow save the remaining episodes is unclear. In the end, one thing is certain that fans expected greatness, but in return they got instead was disappointment. For a series built on the thrill of god-tier animation, One Punch Man Season 3 feels like the punchline of its own joke, and no one seems to be laughing.
