I Was Reincarnated as the 7th Prince So I Can Take My Time Perfecting My Magical Ability is an isekai anime that has recently released its second season. Isekai is one of the most popular genres in anime. New titles are introduced every season, making it one of the most oversaturated genres.

So, when this anime was released, fans started wondering if it was going to be the same old format about an overpowered main character who would solo any opponent they end up facing. But surprisingly, I Was Reincarnated as the 7th Prince anime offers a familiar story with a unique spin.

It is a must-watch anime for those who want to take a break from their usual shonen or seinen genre. The story of this show is a combination of thrilling battles, harem, and glimpses of slice of life.

The main protagonist is Lloyd, who was reincarnated into a family known for its mana abilities. In his previous birth, he was an ordinary nobody who just wanted to learn more about magic.

Now reborn as a prince with access to vast knowledge and power, he dedicates all his time to learning magic. It’s a classic power fantasy, but this one isn’t interested in slaying demon lords or revolutionizing kingdoms; Lloyd just wants to study magic for fun.

The creator of I Was Reincarnated as the 7th Prince changed the rules of the isekai hero archetype by making the main protagonist a nerd instead of an overachieving hero. Lloyd is not interested in fighting or saving the world. He just enjoys his fascination with magic by himself and prefers to be given space.

There’s something uniquely satisfying about how unapologetic the show is in leaning into its protagonist’s absurd strength and obsession. Moreover, the isekai genre tends to follow the protagonists, who are underdogs who become leaders or strong characters who know their powers and are not afraid to use them.

In I Was Reincarnated as the 7th Prince, Lloyd has a combination of both traits. He’s still a child at heart, which makes his behavior whimsical and often comedic. He battles monsters to test spells. And he spends time interacting with side characters in ways that feel lighthearted rather than plot-heavy.

This anime is interesting to watch because of how the studio handled the animation. Since episode 1, Tsumugi Akita Animation Lab has delivered consistent animation. The color palette is vibrant, and the animation is fluid.

Even in simple conversation scenes, the visuals remain dynamic; it does not feel static. This production is relatively smaller in comparison to MAPPA or Bones, but it did not stop them from giving their best.

The visual representation of these ideas is key, and the animators put in the effort to show off the intricacies of spellcraft. That is crucial in a show where much of the drama comes not from character conflict, but from seeing just how broken the protagonist can be in a given scenario.

We know that this series was popular as it was renewed for another season. I Was reincarnated as the 7th Prince recently released episode 1 of Season 2, and it continues to look promising.

Season 2 begins for I Was Reincarnated as the 7th Prince, and it shows promise

The start of the episode shows us that Lloyd is fighting against an angel, but fans have no prior information as to why this battle started. It seems like they are equally matched, and the mysterious angel calls him a demon child. We see that Lloyd is unaffected by his comment and just wants to get it over with.

The scene is cut short, and we are shown that he joins a church to gain Divine magic. The animation looks even better than in Season 1, and we can expect better character development of the main character.

Ultimately, most isekai focus on survival or conquest. 7th Prince is about play, discovery, and freedom, backed up by explosive power and a protagonist who’s endearingly fixated on his one true passion.
