Roll Over and Die: I Will Fight for an Ordinary Life with My Love and Cursed Sword! is definitely a mouthful name, but for fans of this series, have some good news, as it is officially getting an anime adaptation. This was originally a light novel series that offers a story that instantly captured readers' attention, all because it promised a combination of emotions and brutality.
In the center of it is one girl’s desperate fight for freedom and love. Roll Over and Die tells the story of Flum Apricot. In the beginning, she is introduced as a helpless girl who is forced to join a party whose sole destiny is to defeat the Demon Lord. Her life is then full of misery as it turns out her party members betrayed her. Turns out she does have an ability, a power that allows her to heal from the most fatal wounds.

Roll Over and Die is about Flum's journey, who has to not only navigate through revenge, but also wants to build an ordinary life with her new mate, Milkit. Both of these ladies go through experiences that follow a violent yet tender exploration of difficult topics like trauma, identity, and the fragile hope of love in a cruel world.
Originally, Roll Over and Die was self-published on Shosetsuka ni Naro in 2018. Kiki’s series gained attention because of the emotional story and how it maintained a dark tone. Because of its popularity, it was later picked by GC Novels and illustrated by Kinta. But that was not the end, as this series was also adapted as a manga by Sunao Minkata.
This is proof of how the story is so good that it gained attention and praise, especially while it was being Yuri. This genre does not have many dark fantasy undertones. Now, the upcoming anime, Roll Over and Die, seeks to capture that same balance on screen.

What makes Roll Over and Die stand out

Recently, there have been countless fantasy anime that have reused the trope of the main character being kicked out of the so-called hero's party. But Roll Over and Die has utilized this trope to brutal extremes. The main character is not just underestimated; she goes through the worst situations in life before her character gets a chance to reclaim her life.
The story has never shied away from violence or moral corruption, particularly in its portrayal of the Church and societal hypocrisy. Yet in the middle of all the blood and tragedy, it’s the relationship between Flum and Milkit that gives the story its heart.
Final thoughts
With its January 2026 release confirmed and an impressive production lineup, Roll Over and Die is shaping up to be one of next year’s most daring and emotionally charged anime. Its combination of yuri romance, dark fantasy world-building, and visceral storytelling will likely appeal to fans of Claymore, Vivy: Fluorite Eye’s Song, and Revolutionary Girl Utena. In the end, if the trailers of this series are any indication, the anime adaptation won’t hold back on the series’ trademark intensity.
