Solo Leveling live-action has become one of the most talked-about upcoming adaptations. It was initially a webtoon that was then adapted into anime. At the recent Crunchyroll Anime Awards, the series won multiple categories. As of now, with the latest news, it is confirmed that it is going to be adapted into a live-action series.

On 8 July 2025, Netflix officially confirmed the rumors about partnering with Kakao Entertainment and SANAI Pictures to work on Solo Leveling Live Action. These studios are well known for handling big-budget projects.

Netflix, Kakao Entertainment, and SANAI Pictures are in a unique position to make this a flagship series not just for the streaming platform but for Korean entertainment as a whole.

Moreover, it is also confirmed that a global VFX team will be handling the CGI. This is an important aspect of their background because this show will require the best CGI and access to top-of-the-line equipment for bringing a fictional show to life.

Considering that Solo Leveling heavily relies on supernatural battles, monstrous creatures, and large-scale destruction, the visual effects could be the ultimate deciding factor for this adaptation’s success or failure.

It might seem redundant to remake a globally popular show into live-action, but it might be the next best step for the franchise. The webtoon and anime of Solo Leveling already have a loyal fan base, but this Solo Leveling live-action adaptation would allow access to those who prefer a live-action format.

Moreover, the core story of Solo Leveling is straightforward. Sung Jin-Woo is the protagonist who starts his journey as a weak E-rank hunter, and one day, during a dungeon raid, they ends up encountering a dangerously strong being. The next thing he knows is that he has gained a unique ability to power up by fulfilling a task.

This setup is practically tailor-made for action-packed, visual storytelling. It fuses elements of isekai, dungeon-crawling RPGs, and modern-day urban fantasy, offering a rich canvas for world-building and character evolution.

We have confirmed news that Byeon Woo-seok is going to be playing the role of the protagonist in the Solo Leveling live-action. Releasing this news seems like a strategic move, as he is one of the biggest actors and is known to deliver phenomenal performances.

Fans are also hyped about this cast member, as he bears a resemblance to Jin-woo. This is important as anime and webtoon fans get really riled up about the cast if they don’t look similar to the original character design.

If Woo-seok nails the cold, determined presence of the Shadow Monarch while retaining the emotional humanity that grounds Jin-woo, then this live-action could become the definitive version for newcomers to the series.

Solo Leveling live-action has the potential to be the next big thing

I believe if they take their time to meticulously work on this project, it has the potential to become the next big hit. We already know that the plot of Solo Leveling works as it has earned many awards and the hearts of fans.

In my opinion, one of the most exciting aspects of this adaptation is that it's based on a Korean IP, a rarity in the anime space that has long been dominated by Japanese properties.

I think of this Solo Leveling live-action project as a potential to become a gritty, action-filled epic with strong characters and stunning visuals. The emotional beats hit hard, the action is thrilling, and the transformation of Jin-woo is something any viewer can get behind, whether or not they’ve read the webtoon.

Final thoughts

If the producers have time and the resources to translate a popular story into live action, then there is no doubt that fans should strongly anticipate the release of the live-action. This is a moment of transition, and if Netflix handles it with the care and attention it deserves, Solo Leveling live-action could become a flagship show not only for Korea but for genre television worldwide.
