Solo Leveling: Ragnarok goes on indefinite hiatus - Everything to know

The Solo Leveling: Ragnarok series just got up to the good part of Suho's story when it got put on hold, and chapter 68 was released with no indication that it was going to be the last one for a while. The manhwa only got through 20 chapters in its second season, and there are lots of unfinished stories to tell.

Solo Leveling: Ragnarok enters hiatus because illustrator JIN must report for South Korea's mandatory military conscription. Illustrators for the series normally do two years of army service without exception, unless they have medical problems. REDICE Studio said that they are going to find someone else to do the illustration of the comic until it resumes publication, but they have not said the date when that will happen.

JIN's leaving was announced in his emotional goodbye note on Chapter 68, where he thanked everyone for this amazing chance to contribute to the series. He said that becoming an artist for Solo Leveling has been a goal of his since he was in school. For the last four years, he has worked on all the additional stories and has now moved up to do the sequel.

JIN was one of several disciples trained by the late Jang Sung-Rak, known professionally as DUBU. DUBU served as the original illustrator for Solo Leveling before passing away in 2022 from a cerebral hemorrhage. He founded REDICE Studio and mentored multiple artists who would continue his legacy.

The folks at the studio are guaranteeing their followers that one of DUBU's disciples will take over the drawing features. This will keep annoying the fans who still love how the previous director, DUBU, wanted the first chapter of the manga to be illustrated. They have hired an artist who has experience in the same style and has also worked on the manga that the artist used when creating his masterpieces.

What happened to Solo Leveling: Ragnarok Season 2?

Solo Leveling: Ragnarok only had 20 Chapters in Season 2, which is less than half of Season 1, where we were offered 47 Chapters. This noticeably tiny number of Chapters in the second season left many fans feeling hesitant and concerned that it would probably be cancelled. Thankfully, an update later confirmed that the reason for the low chapter count was due to production problems, not cancellation.

Chapter 68 ended just as we were about to see some serious action in the Jeju Island story arc. There are still unresolved issues from Sung Suho's fight at the end of Season One. The way this episode stopped leaves a lot of unanswered questions, including when and where Suho will get to reconnect with his mother, Cha Haein.

So, there were some bumps in the road during Season 2 of Solo Leveling: Ragnarok, which created multiple pauses and mini-breaks for fans. This was mainly due to some restructuring happening behind the scenes, which resulted in some of those pauses, so it makes sense that it led to the indefinite pause on what would be next.

Nothing's confirmed yet when Season 3 of Solo Leveling: Ragnarok will drop. It's thought that there will be an extended wait before any new episodes see the light of day. Considering what has happened with other types of transitions, we expect the show will probably not return until sometime in mid- to late-2026, based on when we anticipate a new illustrator might be trained to work with their production team.

The military service (which is about 2 years) means that Jin won't be back until 2027 at the absolute earliest, so who knows if he even re-enters with Solo Leveling: Ragnarok. By then, the franchise could have moved on to a new illustrator altogether.

After a long break from the Solo Leveling: Ragnarok series, DUBU's art style will continue with a new illustrator coming on board. However, even though the manhwa is on hiatus, the franchise shows no signs of slowing down. The best way to stay up-to-date on future releases is through the official social media platforms of both D&C Media and REDICE Studio.
