Solo Leveling features a variety of powerful entities with abilities that can redefine reality, but one stands above them all: the Absolute Being. He is a pivotal figure who is at the foundation of the story’s complex lore, despite only being present in one chapter of the manhwa.

The Absolute Being is the god responsible for creating the Rulers and the Monarchs. He is deceased by the time Solo Leveling begins and is only spoken of by Ashborn during the Monarchs War Arc. Despite being a celestial being with the powers of creation itself, the Absolute Being is twisted and responsible for all the events occurring in the narrative.

At the very beginning of time in another world, the only elements that existed were the Absolute Being, light, and darkness. The god then split up the light to create the Rulers, and split the darkness to create the Monarchs. Fittingly, the Monarchs were created to destroy the world, while the Rulers were meant to maintain the balance by opposing the Monarchs.

After an unknown period of fighting and innumerable losses, the Rulers discovered that the Absolute Being they served did not wish to assist their efforts and was far from a noble figure. Rather, the Absolute Being had created the Monarchs and the Rulers solely to entertain him, and he had no intention of concluding their unending war.

Hence, the Absolute Being was not a depiction of good, but showcased the selfishness that came with incomprehensible power. He did not see the Monarchs or the Rulers as his subjects, but merely as creations made for his enjoyment. To ensure they never thought of opposing him, he had also ingrained four commandments within them.

These were “Thou Shall Worship God”, “Thou Shall Praise God”, “Thou Shall Prove Thy Faith”, and “Those Who Fail to Obey These Commandments Shall Not Be Spared”. These laws became the lifeblood of the Rulers, making them give their unwavering allegiance to the Absolute Being. Notably, these are the same words in the Cartenon Temple, where the Architect selected Sung Jinwoo to become the Shadow Monarch’s vessel.

Nevertheless, having grown weary of the war and realizing that their creator did not care for them, the Rulers rebelled against him and ended up killing him with their spears. Only one Ruler did not betray the Absolute Being, and this was Ashborn.

The Absolute Being had prepared another scheme in case he was stabbed in the back. He had hidden a power inside Ashborn that would turn him into the Shadow Monarch. Therefore, the newest Monarch, who was earlier a Ruler, found the Absolute Being’s dead body shortly after his transformation.

Due to the Absolute Being’s death, the Rulers gained more strength and began overpowering the Monarchs. Sensing the responsibility bestowed upon him by his creator, Ashborn joined the side of darkness to restore balance in the war.

Is the Absolute Being weak in Solo Leveling?

Fans may believe that the Absolute Being is not powerful since he was so easily beaten by his own creations. However, this is not true. The Absolute Being is one of the strongest entities in the entire series, and his powers can manipulate creation itself.

He could create life out of light and darkness, and also made time-altering artifacts like the Cup of Reincarnation. The Absolute Being is also part of a race called the Itarim, who are the main antagonists of Solo Leveling: Ragnarok. Given that Sung Jinwoo has to focus all his efforts on ensuring that these enemies cannot invade the world, there is no reason to believe the Absolute Being isn’t as strong as they.

Due to this, his death in the series is certainly odd. A proper explanation is never provided, but most fans believe that the Absolute Being had died due to his own carelessness. He had not seen battle in ages and lived for entertainment. He also did not believe his creations could ever rebel against him, and only set one fail-safe inside Ashborn. Due to this, he was likely caught off guard.

Other theories suggest that the Absolute Being’s powers were limited or weakened when he was killed by the Rulers. Since the Itarim had always sought to occupy the Absolute Being’s world, he may have had to stop them at the cost of his powers. There is no concrete answer provided to this question, but it is beyond doubt that the Absolute Being is a figure whose strength surpasses understanding in Solo Leveling.
