Mission 122 was a turning point. While Yor shared drinks with her friends Sharon, Camilla, and Millie, finally receiving apologies for earlier misunderstandings, Loid focused on the notebook Melinda had provided, pondering its possible links to Desmond’s circle.

Meanwhile, Anya in Spy x Family eavesdropped on his thoughts and panicked when she realized Yor might be outpacing her in the “Friendship Scheme.” Determined to prove herself, she volunteered to study with Sigmund Authen, giving Loid the ideal opportunity to investigate further.

At the Authens’ home, Anya wasted no time asking Sigmund direct, hilariously childlike questions about “evil organizations.” While her antics made for comedic gold, they triggered something much darker. Sigmund’s old photos, his wartime research, and his casual admission of having met Donovan Desmond years ago raised Loid’s suspicions. Yet it was Anya who got closest to the truth.

Despite his apparent dementia, Sigmund’s memories flickered to life in Anya’s presence. But as night fell, the tone shifted. Sigmund, wide-eyed and lucid, scribbled furiously in his notes about Desmond, a secret project, and whether Anya could be Test Subject #7. That final panel left fans shaken. Was this sweet old man truly harmless, or has his foggy memory been hiding secrets more dangerous than anyone suspected?

What to expect from Spy x Family chapter 123

With such a loaded cliffhanger, Chapter 123 has several possible directions and almost all of them carry heavy implications for the future of Spy x Family. The biggest question left hanging is Sigmund’s cryptic note: “Desmond. Project. Plan. Is Anya Test Subject #7?”

If Anya really is Subject #7 of the experiments Sigmund once oversaw, this chapter could finally peel back the layers of her mysterious backstory. Fans have long speculated about the origins of her telepathy, with hints pointing toward government or military experiments tied to “Project Apple.”

Spy x Family Chapter 123 may confirm that Donovan Desmond himself was involved in funding or even directly supervising these programs. Moreover, we can expect Sigmund’s notes to serve as a narrative bridge. Whether Loid catches sight of them or Barbara stumbles across them first, these scribbles could be the first solid link between Anya’s powers and Operation Strix’s central target.

Anya, meanwhile, might continue her “agenting” in comically reckless ways, but her actions are bringing her dangerously close to truths Loid himself isn’t ready to confront.

One chilling theory that gained traction after Spy x Family Chapter 122 is the idea that Donovan Desmond himself might be a mind reader or at least immune to mind reading. His scars, his guarded demeanor, and the growing emphasis on Anya’s powers all support this.

If Chapter 123 even hints at this possibility, fans are in for a rare kind of showdown: mind-reader vs. mind-reader. Such a confrontation would turn Operation Strix into more than espionage; it would become a battle of hidden thoughts, with Anya as the wild card.
