After many episodes focused on Loid and Anya, Spy x Family Season 3 Episode 5 gives Yor the spotlight. The title of this episode was "The Mommy-Friend Scheme, and had a unique blend of warmth, humor, and display of Yor's immense strength. This was an important episode to remind fans that her character is crucial, as she has cemented her place as the emotional backbone of the Forger family.

From the start of her character arc, Yor has been shown as someone who is a terrifying assassin but also a socially awkward person who struggles to fit into society. Since she joined the Forger family, she has been constantly self-doubting her parenting style and is striving to become a better provider.

In Spy x Family Season 3 Episode 5, this dual nature of hers becomes the main topic. It started with Yor leaving home to get Anya her crunchy tea snacks. This was supposed to be a straightforward, harmless shopping trip. But she ended up saving a woman from having a nasty fall, which could have led to injuries.

The scene showcased not only how she gracefully saved the mysterious lady, but also the use of her quick reflexes to catch all the items before they could fall. That woman introduces herself as Melinda and offers Yor to join her in the Lady Patriots Society. For the first time, Yor in Spy x Family Season 3 Episode 5 gets a chance to become friends with other women and have a sense of belonging.

Melinda invites her to a volleyball game. Here, Yor is introduced as her helper, and she, being an awkward woman, misinterprets this introduction. As all of them start playing the game, Yor ends up making multiple fouls in order to make sure she is not a burden to the team. Then Melinda understands what is happening and urges Yor to enjoy and play as a team.

What comes next in Spy x Family Season 3 Episode 5 is truly hilarious. Yor showcases her strength, which causes the other team to be scared to play. It was also revealed that although her team lost, the other ladies did not blame her, but joked around the fact on how the opposite team almost broke down.

Then comes one of the most wholesome moments of the episode, as the ladies are having some tea, Yor actually feels like she fits in, which leads her to confess. She opens up about her self-doubt about being a mother and a wife, and struggles with being normal. Every other lady joins in to reassure her that no one knows what they are doing either; it is best to learn from experience and take things one day at a time.

Of course, this wouldn’t be Spy x Family without a sudden twist, and it’s a big one. Melinda is revealed to be Melinda Desmond, the wife of Donovan Desmond and the mother of Damian, Anya’s school rival and Loid’s key to Operation Strix. In the episode, Yor initially did not understand what being a First Lady meant, so when Loid explained it to her, she got flustered as realization dawned.

On the other hand, Loid saw this unlikely friendship as an opportunity to get closer to the Desmond Family. He feels that now, maybe the route of Anya befriending Damian would not be needed. Yet, there’s an undercurrent of tension. Melinda’s calm demeanor hides something unsettling, leaving viewers wondering whether her intentions are as pure as they seem.

She reached out to Becky, and they devised a plan, but it backfired as Anya ended up accidentally spitting burger on Damian, which made him angry.
