The All-devouring Whale is among the most popular anime airing currently, captivating fans with its expansive world and earning the reputation of being the Chinese Pokémon. Airing on May 1, 2025, the series has been through a turbulent first three episodes.
The opening two episodes stunned the entire anime world with their visuals, while the third episode saw a sharp decline in the quality. The All-devouring Whale episode 4, though not matching up to the earlier standard of the series, sees an improvement compared to the previous installment.
The All-devouring Whale follows Fan Lingxiao, a spirit pet master who is reincarnated as Liu Fengmang after an untimely death, and sets out to restore his sect, the Lingxiao Pavilion. The episodes so far have seen Fengmang collect spirit pets to aid him on his quest, after which he joins the Lingxiao Pavilion, which has been reduced to three members.

The third episode of the anime revolved around the main cast’s attempts to catch the Rhino Horn Panda, but ultimately failed due to Su Muchuan’s interference. Later, they found the panda, as well as Muchuan’s foxes, being sold by the Ease Sect.
Since this was the same group responsible for attacking the Lingxiao Pavilion earlier, depleting all its resources and forcing its residents to leave, the remaining members decided to launch an attack, saving the betrayed Muchuan in the process. After discovering the treasures that Fengmang had hidden in his previous life, they were determined to take revenge.
The All-devouring Whale episode 4 summary
As mentioned, The All-devouring Whale episode 4 sees the Lingxiao Pavilion take its first steps against upper-class sects, which looked down on them and played a hand in their downfall. This installment starts by featuring the antagonistic leader of the Ease Sect, Yo Yang, torturing Su Muchuan.
However, the Lingxiao Pavilion began its attack, breaking through the doors and allowing Muchuan to reunite with his foxes. Soon after, Fengmang separated from the rest of the group and raided the sect’s treasure storage, where he found valuable materials to upgrade his pets.
Unfortunately, he immediately encountered Yo Yang, who controlled a dangerous Lord-rank pet called Shadow Demon. Despite Fengmang’s best efforts to face it with his own pets, he was eventually overpowered due to the rank difference. Injured, he attempted to retreat and was reunited with Muchuan and the rest of the Lingxiao Pavilion.
Yo Yang approached them together, confident in his victory. As Fengmang recovered, the rest of the cast faced the antagonist with their pets, but were ultimately defeated. At that point, the new leader of the Pavilion, Gu Ling, was captured by Shadow Demon, and her death seemed imminent.
Left with no choice, Fengmang revealed the trump card he had been saving, his rare Spiritual Catfish. After saving Gu Ling, the Catfish and Shadow Demon engaged in a thrilling fight where darkness clashed against water.
Fengmang, using the experience of his previous life, impressed in this battle. Using his Vine Sprite, which had been upgraded, he caught the opponent’s spirit pet and made his Catfish absorb it. By the end, only the core of the Shadow Demon remained.
However, Yo Yang took pleasure in his apparent victory, since the Shadow could regenerate if the core wasn’t destroyed. Before the Lingxiao Pavilion could complete the job, the remaining shadow powers controlled by Yo Yang crushed them to the ground.

Right when all hope seemed lost, a girl resembling a sheep jumped into the fray, destroying the spirit pet’s core and beating down Yo Yang. Having been saved by Fengmang earlier in the series, she had trailed him to the Ease Sect. After assisting in defeating Yo Yang, this horned girl, charmed by Fengmang’s looks, ran away out of shyness.
After winning their battle against Yo Yang and beginning their quest for vengeance, the Lingxiao Pavilion took home their spoils. Fengmang, meanwhile, captured a new Fire-Type Steel Ball beast and collapsed after being attacked by an invisible force.
The protagonist woke up later at the Pavilion, unsure of what had happened. Since his secret Catfish was revealed, he went to Gu Ling to explain the situation to her. Gu Ling trusted her junior member, but also questioned him about his similarities to the pavilion’s previous leader, Fan Lingxiao.

The episode ends on a cliffhanger, with Gu Ling questioning whether Fengmang is a disciple or relative of Fan Lingxiao, or if he is Lingxiao himself. Therefore, The All-devouring Whale episode 4 is one of the most exciting installments of the series, showcasing the cast facing their first external threats.
This episode deviates quite a bit from its manhua source material, where the members of the Lingxiao Pavilion fought Yo Yang’s subordinates, and on-screen deaths were also shown aplenty. Nevertheless, the battle between the Spiritual Catfish and the Shadow Demon showed signs of the anime returning to the visual spectacle it promised in the first two episodes, and fans will be hoping for it to stay more consistent in the future.
