Dandadan is currently one of the most popular anime in the world, fascinating fans with its blend of intense action, touching emotion, and creative supernatural elements. In the latest episode, Turbo Granny started training Okarun in order to increase his strength and help him tame the Evil Eye.

While it was a stunning installment elevated by Studio Science Saru's flawless direction, the group missed a golden chance of adapting a short story that would have made fans fall in love with Turbo Granny more.

By adapting the bonus at the end of Dandadan chapter 58, the anime could have given viewers a glimpse into Turbo Granny's caring nature while also highlighting the bond between her and Seiko.

Dandadan chapter 58’s short but impactful Turbo Granny bonus story

Dandadan chapter 58 majorly focuses on Okarun and Aira's battle against the Music Room Portraits. However, the end of the installment features a bonus story following Turbo Granny, Seiko, and a cat.

This short collection of panels begins by showing Turbo Granny walking back to Seiko’s home in the midst of heavy rain while covering her head with a piece of cardboard. On the way, she sees a weak cat that has been abandoned and left inside a box. Although Turbo Granny initially walks past it, she goes back and drags the box to Seiko's house.

Seiko, who is in the kitchen, notices a missing milk carton. As she steps out to search for it, she sees Turbo Granny feeding the sick cat and asking the animal not to give up, urging it to keep fighting to stay alive. Witnessing this, Seiko lets the two keep their privacy and walks away.

Although this is a short story with minimal dialogue, it is immensely moving and displays the empathetic nature of one of the hardest-headed characters in the series. While fans have known for a long time that Turbo Granny is a hidden savior who ends up helping others despite her facade, there are very few moments in the actual show where she shows open affection or concern.

The bonus at the end of chapter 58 fills in this gap, allowing readers to completely see the sweetness of her heart and her desire to protect those who are weak. Additionally, as the two “grannies” of the series, Seiko and Turbo Granny have a lot of comedic and hilarious banter. However, Seiko watching Turbo Granny take care of the cat and choosing to leave them alone confirms that she both understands and respects the yokai.

Although it would be difficult to adapt this story into the anime’s main narrative, Studio Science Saru could have included it as an extra scene at the end of the episode, similar to what Demon Slayer often does. Unfortunately, since they have seemingly skipped past it, anime-only fans will not be able to experience the wide range of emotions felt through this tale.
