What Can You Expect from Wandance Episode 8?

Wandance Episode 8 will probably explore the fallout from Ichirin High's big competition win and Kaboku's muddled feelings about it. The prior episode ended with Kaboku feeling a twinge of jealousy and admiration towards Wanda for being so supportive, while he was also in his feelings about her potentially getting individual recognition.

Iori's mention of battle dancing creates new narrative possibilities, too. He recognized that Kaboku was more naturally intuitive about freestyle as opposed to choreographed movement, which brings up whether Kaboku pursues that route or continues tending towards group dancing with Wanda.

It also seems likely we will see some character arc for the secondary cast members. On and Gaku got minimal time on screen during the competition arc. Wandance Episode 8 seems like it could transition the story to focus on their individual arcs and relationships with the remaining dance club members.

What Happened in Wandance Episode 7

The event results took the spotlight in the first act. Ichirin High School finished first overall, confirming their weeks of hard work, practice, and emotional investment. The competitors that had appeared as "sure things" to win placed second and third, an upset that shocked everyone, competitors and judges alike.

Wanda was named the individual performance honoree for her beautiful performance, and people flocked to her to congratulate her and share their accolades. This drew out Kaboku's jealousy, even though he was truly ecstatic for the team victory.

Assay, the professional dancer on the judging panel, was interested in the possibility of a performance with Wanda after the competition. When Kaboku later approached Assay for feedback, he found that the majority of Assay's feedback was not a performance critique, but rather about preventing injury. Kaboku took this as confirmation of a performance he believed to be lacking in professionalism.

Iori contributed a critical perspective to Kaboku's vulnerable moment when he proposed that battle dancing would be more suited to Kaboku's improvisational proclivity than choreography.

During the second half of the episode, the viewer is taken back in time through extended flashback sections into Wanda's life prior to high school. Wanda lived with her mother as part of a single-parent household, and she worked in a convenience store to cope with some of the almost insurmountable fees of tuition costs.

Wanda's manager, Takeya, was clearly sympathetic to hiring her, but he quickly learned of her unusual commitment to practicing dance during work time. He even lent her a DVD featuring Michael Jackson's work so that she could try on the various dance styles and techniques.

The most emotional part of the episode involves the reveal that Wanda's dad is hearing-impaired. Wanda's dad supports her dance life fully despite not being able to hear the music - and this also explains why Wanda has been so patient with Kaboku's stutter previously.

Wandance Episode 8 is arriving at an important inflection point in the story arc. The series has presented its main characters, introduced its first major competitive arc, and set up the larger motivation for both of the main characters.
