One Piece has introduced all sorts of legendary characters who are known for their strength. Among them is one who has carved his legacy among the giants, that is, none other than Jarul. He was not just one of the strongest warriors; he also carried the rich past of Elbaf. In this story, Jarul is said to be the oldest giant at the age of 408.

During his prime age, Jarul was the co-captain of the Giant Warrior Pirates. His legacy surfaced during the Elbaf arc, and he became an important keystone who would represent tradition, culture, and heartbreak.

In One Piece, his character is shown to be humongous, as even among the giants of Elbaf, Jarul stood out. It was easy to identify him, as he has a signature mountain-shaped beard. His beard was so iconic that he earned the nickname of Mountain Beard.

Just by looking at him, it is easy to mistake him for having a grim personality, but that was far from the truth. Jarul might have faced war, but his personality is softened by his wisdom. His character in One Piece represents how an ideal Elbaf warrior should be.

Moreover, just because he was strong and had partaken in war did not mean he was a musclehead. Jarul was open to new ideas, even if it meant taking a peaceful approach. For instance, he openly supported Mother Carmel’s ideology of pacifism and trade.

Jarul also extends his support to King Harald, as he wanted to create a future for the children of Elbaph that kept them away from war and broke the cycle of vengeance. It is also shown that he had a humorous side. Interestingly, Jarul is shown to boast about the fact that he prefers the company of older women and to crack jokes. He’s a blend of gruff grandpa and national hero.

As he is considered to be the strongest warrior of Elbaf, Jarul is said to have immense physical strength and an even stronger willpower. He managed to survive a sword through the skull, and it is still the most impressive feat of his.

He believes that the only reason he was able to stay alive is because of his helmet. Though he admits he would die from blood loss if the sword were ever removed. Despite this horrific injury, he remains active, speaking, planning, and even celebrating with guests.

The sword through the skull: Jarul’s most gruesome moment in One Piece

It has been revealed that fourteen years before the current timeline, Jarul and Loki were summoned to Aurust Castle by King Harald. But instead of political discussion, they witnessed Harald being murdered by his own guards. In the chaos, Jarul was stabbed through the head, and everyone else present was killed, except Loki.

While Jarul survived, he was never the same again. The sword embedded in his skull became a living relic of treachery. His survival stands as both a miracle and a curse; he bears the trauma of Elbaph’s darkest political hour, physically and emotionally.

Jarul's role in the Elbaph Arc and the Final Saga in One Piece

In the Final Saga of One Piece, Jarul is finally brought into the main spotlight. He appears during a grand feast honoring the Straw Hat Pirates. His initial interaction with Luffy involves a discussion about Nika, the Sun God, and whether this figure represents destruction or salvation.

During the party, Usopp, drunk and oblivious, slaps the sword on Jarul’s head, horrifying everyone. Jarul doesn’t retaliate but is visibly shaken, illustrating how deeply tied his wound is to his psyche.

Jarul isn’t just a side character tossed into the Elbaph arc for nostalgia; he’s a symbol of what it means to endure, to lead, and to change. From war-hardened captain to cultural steward and anguished elder, his journey is a microcosm of One Piece’s grand themes.
