Kingdom has consistently been one of the most stable historical anime series, based on the long-running manga by Yasuhisa Hara about the Warring States period of ancient China.

Since its release in 2012, Kingdom has been tracing the progression of the story of Shin, an orphan after the war, becoming a central figure in the unification of Qin, and its storytelling and production value have been improved throughout the series.

By 2025, when Kingdom premiered its sixth season, it had solidly repositioned itself as a prestige historical drama with strong ratings and new interest worldwide.

Kingdom season 7 is actually happening, and the news was confirmed soon after season 6 of the show ended at the end of December 2025. Several industry reports and anime news websites reported that Kingdom season 7 was in production right after the finale, indicating high confidence in NHK and the production committee. This confirmation places Kingdom among the few long-running anime with uninterrupted sequel momentum over more than a decade.

It did not come as a shock when Kingdom season 7 was announced in the context of the franchise's performance. Season 6 also ranked among the best-rated seasons in the anime's history, outperforming previous seasons on various review sites. Having attracted new critical attention and sustained domestic television ratings, Kingdom proved it has strong demand even in its later seasons.

Business-wise, Kingdom is still one of the most valuable historical manga in Japan. By October 2025, Hara had sold more than 120 million copies of its manga, which is enough to qualify it as one of the highest-selling manga of all time. This commercial strength heavily supports continued anime adaptation, making Kingdom season 7 a logical continuation rather than a risk.

Season 6 of Kingdom left the story at a natural transition point that almost requires a follow-up. The anime was very much based upon the Western Zhao Invasion, in which one of the biggest and most involved military campaigns in the manga was also concentrated. Although it is a long season, season 6 did not exhaust the overall narrative arc.

Narratively, compressing the remaining Western Zhao material into a single season would have undermined the series’ established pacing. Kingdom has traditionally adapted two to three manga chapters per episode, especially when the story is war-heavy. Retaining this hierarchy makes the need to have Kingdom season 7 to retain the magnitude and poignancy of the ongoing conflict.

In addition, the production framework behind Kingdom has stabilized significantly since season 3. Studio Pierrot and Studio Signpost have consistently delivered improved animation, clearer battlefield choreography, and stronger character acting. This technical consistency reduces the obstacle to greenlighting Kingdom season 7 and installments.

Kingdom season 7 and the future of the anime.

Kingdom season 7 is anticipated to go on and presumably end the Western Zhao Invasion and switch over to the later Zhao-focused political and military lines. These chapters intensify inner conflicts and develop strategic conflicts among great states. This development is in line with the way the anime has organized past seasons.

Notably, Kingdom season 7 is not in any way running out of source material. The anime has followed part of the overall manga storyline even after six years of full season coverage. The manga has over 27 major arcs and is still running, which opens up the possibility of Kingdom having much more content to pull more seasons on top of season 7.

Moreover, the Kingdom live-action film series has done exceptionally well at the Japanese box office, which further added to the interest of people in the property. This cross-media presence further supports the argument of carrying on with the anime long after Kingdom season 7.

Good ratings, rich source material, and long-term commercial success make the extension of Kingdom a sure thing and not a risk. To those who follow the show, season 7 is not only the next immediate sequel, but also a good omen that the Kingdom of God epic unification tale is nowhere near the conclusion.
