As the World Turns is now confirming that Meredith Hagner has vacated the role of Liberty. The show has opted to recast the role, and newcomer Sarah Wilson will take over starting in mid-March.
As previously reported, Emmy-nominated actress Meredith Hagner (Liberty Ciccone) has exited As the World Turns to pursue a career outside of daytime. Though the network initially had no comment, a spokesperson for As the World Turns now confirms that Hagner is out -- and that the actress taped her final scenes in late December.
Hagner was a newcomer to professional acting when she joined As the World Turns in April 2008. Last year, however, published reports stated that Hagner was forced to turn down several jobs because of her As the World Turns contract. The actress did, however, find time to film a pilot for a series called Lights Out for the FX cable network. That series was recently greenlighted and 13 episodes were ordered into production. Lights Out is expected to hit the airwaves sometime later this year.
After only a short time with the show, Hagner was nominated for the Outstanding Younger Actress Daytime Emmy in 2009.
Meanwhile, newcomer Sarah Wilson is already hard at work as the show's new Liberty. Wilson will first air on March 15.
