The Bold and the Beautiful's Grace Buckingham had her comeuppance this week, sharply and swiftly. Everything she had built for her life went up in smoke thanks to a crazy, harebrained scheme to bilk Dollar Bill Spencer out of a cool million so she could save her daughters. Flimsy excuse? After what she did, we'd say yes.
Grace did WHAT?!?!?

We're sorry, but we just don't buy that Grace just HAD to give Liam a fake brain tumor because it was the only way she could come up with a million dollars to pay off her ex-husband's gambling debts. And why did he suddenly owe this money now? Reese has been in jail since 2019? The goons after him just left well enough alone until this year? That makes no sense.
Nor does admitting a patient for a brain bleed, looking over his medical history of knocks on the noggin, and coming up with some long game scheme to bilk his father out of a fortune. So, these super dangerous men threatening her daughters were willing to wait months for their cash while Liam believed he was dying.
Grace couldn't have turned to anyone else for help? For example, Hope's son is now being raised by Grace's daughter, Paris, in Paris. The uber-rich Forresters or Logans couldn't have helped out a bit for Douglas and Thomas' sake, at least? While Grace's plight was a sad one, it in no way excuses what she did to Liam and his loved ones.
Hope's biggest trigger

Despite Grace's reasoning for doing what she did making little sense, it made for some really fantastic soap opera. Liam and Hope spent the week marveling at how Grace was so much different from Reese, the man who put them through the worst year of their lives when he made them believe they lost Beth.
However, the Grace Buckingham Admiration Society turned violent when Finn finally forced her to reveal what she did. Nothing against Steffy, but it was fitting that Hope was the one with Liam when he learned the truth because only Hope and Liam can fully understand the devastation they felt when they thought their child had died. While Steffy was heartbroken when she had to give "Phoebe" back, that was Hope and Liam's story, and they deserved this moment with Grace.
Watching Hope and Liam slowly absorb what Grace did to them, as well as their visceral reaction, is what soaps are all about. Those heart-wrenching moments when you can feel the characters' pain bring the audience outside their own lives and into the story.
A story only a soap can do

Tying a current story to one from years ago that is rarely spoken of anymore is also a hallmark of soaps. The soap opera is the only entertainment genre that has such a rich history to mine from, with stories that continue daily for years on end.
We'll also admit, this twist was one we didn't see coming when Liam's (fake) tumor story began back in April. We thought we were getting a gritty cancer story that might end with a miracle cure. Instead, we got a fake cancer story that ended with a miracle cure AND the reveal that Liam never had cancer at all. Surprises are also what soaps are all about. However, the rest of the week wasn't very surprising at all.
Li's repeat performance

We don't think any The Bold and the Beautiful viewer actually believed that Luna was dead. But Sheila did, and now she knows the truth. While Li hiding Luna in a hospital set up at home was something we saw coming, we didn't see Sheila finding out so soon and actually becoming friends with Li.
While they are not quite there yet, we can tell that a Sheila-and-Li friendship is coming, and we can't wait to see how that works out. Are the spaghetti-flying days really over? Will Finn pass out cold when he sees both of his mothers getting along for the sake of his daughter? At least he will be busy while Steffy is away on her latest trauma-induced vacation.
It was beautiful, but was it bold?

No, it was extremely boring. Why did this show need to go all the way to Italy so Brooke could launch herself off the back of Nick's boat just so Ridge could jump into the Mediterranean and realize she was his destiny? And don't forget about Eric running around as the sidekick, trying to prevent the interloper from proposing to his ex-wife and baby mama that he wants his son to spend the rest of his life with.
That was all this Italy trip was about. Some high school romance hijinks for the show's grandparents. Never mind how many times we have seen this before. Never mind that this got old years ago, and very few people want to keep seeing this.
Brooke and Ridge's back and forth just isn't very interesting anymore. If B&B could figure out that Steffy and Hope fighting over Liam was played out, then why oh why can't it figure out that Brooke and Taylor fighting over Ridge just has to end? Please.
And when they get back to Los Angeles, the same thing will continue. Nick will propose, a panicked Taylor will tell Ridge that they belong together, and Brooke won't know what to say except mutter the word "Destiny" a few hundred more times. Rinse. Repeat. But at least Italy is beautiful, and we guess that's what counts.
Till next week, Scoopers, when Dollar Bill discovers where his dollars really went.
