CBS has just broken a new record: the longest winning streak on record. For 39 seasons and 1,500 consecutive weeks, CBS is #1 in daytime television.

Of course, this comes as no surprise to viewers of The Bold and the Beautiful, The Young and the Restless, and Beyond the Gates. The soap community is a large contributor to the numbers the network is celebrating.

CBS’ weekly winning streak started on Oct. 3, 1988 — back when Ronald Reagan was president and floppy discs were still a thing. The “weekly consecutive streak” was only interrupted once, from July 22-29, 1996, during the Summer Olympics held in Atlanta and broadcast on NBC. Since then, the network has maintained the #1 spot for 1,500 consecutive weeks — approximately 28 years.
