B&B takes on important social issue storyline with PSA starring Katherine Kelly Lang

The Bold and the Beautiful is bringing awareness to the distracted driving issue via an emotional new storyline and public service announcement.

Heads up: The Bold and the Beautiful has teamed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and is bringing viewers a public service announcement about the dangers of distracted driving.

The Emmy-winning soap opera recently featured a storyline in which R.J. (Anthony Turpel) was injured while Coco (Courtney Grosbeck) was texting while driving. And in conjunction with the emotional storyline, the soap has made a PSA that further drives home (without distraction) the point.

Katherine Kelly Lang (Brooke Logan) joined CBS Cares for the video that encourages drivers to visit NHTSA.org for more information.

"Texting while driving is a serious and problematic trend that is on the rise, not just with millennials, but also with adults," says B&B executive producer/head writer in a statement. "We thought that the time was right to share this important story and the possible consequences distracted driving may have with our viewers."

"Teen distraction is a deadly problem in the U.S., and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is thrilled to work with CBS to get this message to the public in such a creative way," added Susan Gorcowski, Associate Administrator of Communications and Consumer Information, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. "R.J. and Coco's storyline really captures the danger of texting behind the wheel and the emotional toll it has on loved ones."
