Ahoy, maties! The Bold and the Beautiful has always been filled with fashion designers and fashion moguls, but in 38 years on the air, there's only ever been one sailor. Until he became a fashion mogul, that is. The character of Nick Marone returns this week after being gone since 2012 (2022 if you count Brooke's 35th anniversary dream), and B&B's newer viewers out there may be wondering, “Who the hell is this Nick guy?” Well, “Nicky” (his mom's nickname for him), or “Popeye” (Ridge's nickname for him!), was front and center for 9 years and had quite an impact on the then-canvas – and therefore could have quite the impact on the current canvas. To get you ready for your summer boat tour with Nick Marone as your captain, let's have a look at his manifest, shall we?
Logans at night, sailors' delight on The Bold and the Beautiful

Nick first arrived as a gruff, bearded sailor known as Dominick Payne back in 2003. Amazingly, the SORASed Bridget was the first Forrester-centric character he interacted with. In true B&B fashion, Dom was employed by Marone Industries, not knowing that the guy who ran it, Massimo Marone, was his pop. And whaddaya know! This was right about the same time that designer deluxe Ridge Forrester learned that he was really a Marone as well, via Mama Stephanie's fling with Mass. That Massimo. He really did have a woman in every port.
Now, what's the first thing you do when you discover you have a long-lost half-bro? You fight over the same woman, natch! Yes, Nick soon had his eye on Brooke (what man on B&B doesn't?), but after Ridge was kidnapped during his South American honeymoon with La Logan (kidnapped by Sheila, mind you!), Nick attempted to come to Ridge's rescue, only to be captured himself. Too bad Steffy killed “Sugar” last year, because Nicky faked a seduction with her to get a hold of the key that would unlock the Marone boys' shackles. What a reunion that would have been. It would also be a hoot to see Nick in a scene with Sheila, given their history!
In an ensuing free-for-all, Ridge fell into a furnace, outside of which Nick and Brooke mourned him by having a right ol' shag. As you do. Ridge wasn't dead any more than Taylor turned out to be (more on her in a minute), so when the always-fertile Brooke turned up preggo, a coin flip would have given better odds as to whether Nick or Ridge was the daddy. Nick led the race for a while, but only because Sally Spectra (we miss you, Red!) fixed Nick Jr.'s paternity test. That's why we call the oddly missing designer trainee R.J. instead. (Will he be back now that his almost-dad is returning?)
With Bridge on their fourth marriage, Nick moved on with Bridget and almost had Bridge beat by marrying Bridget three times. But between a miscarriage, a faked loyalty test abortion, and the fact that Nick couldn't stop drooling over Brooke (nor Brooke over Nick), Bridget didn't stand a chance. Especially with Nick's ever-present British mum, Jackie, taking every opportunity to push Nick and Brooke back together. Nick and Brooke made it to the altar, but Stephanie had “nicked” outtake nudes of Brooke and plastered a super-enlarged one on a billboard next to their outdoor wedding venue. Consider anchor not dropped.
Turns out he's a Jack of lots of trades on The Bold and the Beautiful

With the only constant in his life being his boat, the Shady Marlin (eventually replaced with the Shady Marlin II), Nick borrowed Ridge's other castaway, Taylor, who was between wanting Ridge back. The Nick/Taylor union worked for a while, at least until they tried to have a baby in vitro; right after Taylor delivered, she learned that Brooke's egg had accidentally been implanted in her, and the meltdown was epic. Nick sued for divorce and custody after the unstable Taylor couldn't bond with their son, Jack – Ridge didn't want to raise Brooke's sorta kid with Nick, either, so Nick ended up raising the boy alone. Imagine the chip Jack would have on his shoulder being a grown-up now who was abandoned by not one, but two mothers. B&B, you can't bring Nick back without bringing Jack back. Make it happen.
Nick had made a quick enemy of Stephanie (was there anybody she ever really liked?), but hostilities went into overdrive when La Forrester accidentally tossed La Marone over a balcony. Nick took control of Forrester Creations in his drive to avenge Jackie, and that's how he got into fashion. Later, he was one of the many suspects suspected when Stephanie was shot, but that deed was done by Brooke's brother, Storm Logan, who later shot himself to donate his heart to Brooke's in-need-of-a-transplant sister, Katie. Nick and Bridget befriended Katie, but when the youngest Logan feared her days were numbered and longed for the prom she never had, Nick gave her one...and something else. That's right, Will! You almost had an older sib, but Katie sadly miscarried him or her. You get the feeling Nick was shooting blanks?
At one point, Nick bought Spectra Fashions, rebranded it Jackie M for his mom, and led a group of self-proclaimed “misfits” (including Stephanie!) through the haute couture world. Nick and Bridget almost had success with Marriage #3, except Agnes Jones, the surrogate carrying Nick's baby for them, also turned out to be Nick's ex-girlfriend, and Bridget got pregnant by Jackie's husband, the studly Owen Knight. That was too much even for the randy Nick.
Never one to let the seaweed grow under his feet, Nick had quick romances with Stephanie's sister, Pam Douglas, and the middle Logan sister, Donna, making Nick the one guy to sleep with all three Logan girls. Yeah, he helped raise Hope, but she's an adult now, and probably not off-limits. After the scare of a spot on his lung (caused by all those cigars he always puffed on), Nick took Jack and set sail for parts unknown 13 years ago. And now, Monday, June 16...he's back.
You've just Remembered When about Nick Marone! We know he's docked on a limited run and that his first life preserver is going to be Brooke – but Nick has a rich enough history that B&B would be wise to put him in scenes with Katie and Donna, not to mention Taylor. Sure, Taylor's recast, but so is Ridge, and that shouldn't stop us from seeing Ridge and Nick do battle, either. Especially with Ridge's inevitable jealousy when Nick pursues Brooke, and that somehow leads to everyone ending up in Italy! (Maybe that's where Jack's living?)
