In the hotel, Ridge freaked out when Eric told him that Nick planned to propose to Brooke. Eric described Nick as a shark, and Ridge said Nick was playing Popeye, but he wasn’t going to let him ruin Brooke’s life. Ridge told Eric he was going to go and find Brooke to put a stop to the proposal. Eric offered to accompany him, but Ridge asked him to wait there in case Brooke returned.

At the marina, Brooke and Nick sat at a table while he had a chef prepare them lunch. They were waiting for the weather to clear up a bit before they headed out on their adventure on his boat. Meanwhile, Ridge wandered through Naples, looking for Brooke.

Nick walked by Tomas, arguing with the mechanic, and overheard them say Marone. He asked if they knew Nick Marone. Tomas said he worked for Nick and that they couldn’t fix the steering on the boat. Ridge asked which boat was Nick’s, and Tomas pointed in its direction.

Ridge couldn’t find Brooke and Nick before they got on the boat and left. Ridge was trying to call, but Brooke didn’t hear the phone. Ridge left a message for Brooke not to get on the boat because there was something wrong with it. He told her that he would find her.

Ridge kept running along the water’s edge as Nick drove the boat out into the sea. He could see Brooke lying on the back of the boat. Another speedboat came by, and they almost collided because Nick’s steering wheel was jammed. Brooke somehow fell off the back, into the water. “Logan!” Ridge gasped and then dove into the water, swimming towards Nick’s boat to save Brooke.

Back at the hotel, Eric kept thinking about Nick having an engagement ring in his hand and couldn’t just sit around. He decided to go out and try to find Brooke, too.

At the Spencer mansion, Hope came to visit Liam. She fussed over him, making sure he was comfortable. Liam told Hope he was concerned about how often she was there to take care of him and assured her he was going to be just fine. Hope credited Dr. Grace Buckingham for saving Liam.

Liam told Hope that he had been saying “Dr. Buckingham” for months now, and it triggers two parts of his brain. On one hand, Grace saved his life, but Reese nearly stole his life from them. He said the ‘tale of two Buckinghams’ was crazy, but both were life-altering. Hope thought that it was miraculous, though she agreed about the pain they endured. Liam noted it was all because of Reese Buckingham and his stupid gambling debts.

Liam and Hope had flashbacks to being told that Beth was dead and then holding the baby they thought was theirs. Hope said she didn’t know how anyone could do something so heinous, all in the name of money. Hope thought that the irony of her being the one to save Liam was a blessing. “I thank God that we didn’t lose you,” Hope smiled tearfully.

At the hospital, Finn told Grace that he knew the operation couldn’t have cost a million dollars like she had claimed to Bill. “You'd better tell me what’s going on. You better tell me right now,” Finn growled. Grace maintained that it was a necessary cost for the experiential treatment and the aftercare, and that she had warned Bill of the expense. “Yeah, it was expensive. But was it necessary?” Finn wondered ominously.

Finn noted that everyone believed Liam was going to die…but only because she claimed he had a cancerous tumor. Grace countered that the neurological team agreed with her. Finn pointed out that he had never seen one member of that team in Liam’s room. “It was always you delivering their findings. All the scans, all the test results; they all came through you,” Finn pointed. Grace wondered why it was an issue that the tumor was gone. Finn told Grace he had seen the MRI’s from before and after the surgery and accused her of lying. Finn asked if Liam had ever even had brain cancer at all.

Grace tried to bolt, claiming to be too busy for any of it. “Time for the truth?” Finn snapped. He shut the door and told Grace that he could tell for months she wasn’t herself. Gracea asked him just to be grateful that Liam was going to live, but Finn told her he saw the incisions. Finn said they were too small for any brain surgery, the neuro team had no documentation of his condition, and there had been no follow-up. “I remember taking Liam down for testing. You were there. You claimed you wanted to take over,” Finn said. He thought at the time she was being kind, but now he wondered if any of it was real.

Grace wanted to leave her office, but Finn asked her to admit that the danger was made up. He pleaded on Grace’s sense of decency, noting they had been colleagues for years. “I had no choice,” Grace sobbed. She broke down and sank to a chair. “You were right. I made the whole thing up. I lied about Liam’s brain cancer and I faked his diagnosis,” she cried. She wailed that Reese and his gambling debts were threatening her daughters. She explained that Reese had serious debts, and the people that he owed were not messing around. Grace said the people knew where she, Zoe, and Paris lived, and they gave her a deadline — or else. Grace yelled and cried that she needed the money and was desperate.
