Brooke got into the festive cheer with a fully decorated house. Forrester was closed for the holiday, and Ridge told Brooke that everything was set to volunteer at the mission. However, he was worried about his father and how he was handling things after being forced into retirement. It would be difficult for Eric to transition to his new life. Ridge pitched the idea of dropping by Eric’s to check in on him.

Donna was amazed at the Christmas display at the Forrester mansion. She tried to get through to her husband, but he was despondent. He appreciates the effort to embrace the holiday, but he couldn’t get into it. He was in no room to celebrate. Things weren’t the same as they used to be. Eric didn’t want to bring anyone down with his lackluster spirit, especially the children.

Donna understood how Eric felt, but she urged him to push through and allow himself to be overtaken by the spirit. Donna encouraged him to serve as the family patriarch and to bring the spirit of Christmas to everyone. They looked to him for guidance through the holiday season.

Brooke and Ridge arrived at Eric’s house, and Brooke exclaimed how gorgeous the decorations were. Ridge noted that Eric’s car wasn’t home, and Donna was surprised to learn that he wasn’t home. He asked how his father was feeling, and she lied, saying he was fine. Brooke asked how he was really doing, and Donna broke down. Ridge couldn’t stay there and do nothing, so he left the house to search for Eric.

Donna opened up to Brooke about her concerns for her husband once Ridger was gone. She loved spending extra time with Eric. However, the retirement has knocked him off balance and is hanging over their lives like a dark cloud. Brooke hoped Eric could find something else to fill the void that designing once held.

Under the mistletoe, Steffy and Finn continued their recent trend of kissing in every scene. Their romantic moment was quickly interrupted by Kelly and Hayes, who wanted to bring cookies to Eric’s house. They went through their family ornaments, and the excitement took over Hayes, who was eager to open presents early.

Steffy and Finn worked on Christmas arts and crafts, and the light-hearted conversation shifted when they discussed Eric’s retirement. Steffy thought that the retirement may have been hard for her husband to handle. Steffy thought Eric would appreciate the change from the day-to-day grind. Unfortunately for everyone, his reaction to things was a lot more complicated than that.

Eric recovered from his health scare, but he was removed from the company shortly after they recovered it from Hope and Carter’s coup. It wasn’t how he ever believed his final days at Forrester Creations would be spent. They didn’t dive too deep into the conversation about Eric because the kids returned to the room, ready to read their Christmas lists to Santa.

To Steffy and Finn’s shock, neither child asked for anything. Instead, they were more concerned about the children at the mission and other kids who could be considered less fortunate. Finn gave Steffy credit for their children having such grounded beliefs, and they expressed their love for each other. She again placed the mistletoe over their heads and signaled for another kiss.

At Forrester, Eric arrived at an empty building, taking time to soak in the sights of his former workplace. His struggle with the decision to walk away was evident, and he was nearly overcome with emotion. Eric sat in the CEO chair, quietly reflecting. Eric thought back to the conversation with Ridge that led him to give in to his son’s demand to ride off into the sunset.

Eric picked up a photo of Stephanie and believed she was right to check out of life before she got too old to do anything. He reflected on past moments when he thrived as the head of Forrester Creations. It was such a vibrant time to be the leader of an industry powerhouse. The roar of the crowd, the array of beautiful gowns, and the adoration of fans in the past made it hard to let go in the present.

Ridge walked in during the daydream, proclaiming, “I knew that I was going to find you here.” He asked Eric why he was in the office, and reminded his father that he was allowed at Forrester anytime he wanted. Ridge knew there was nowhere else that Eric would be. He asked how he was handling things because he worried about him.

Ridge insisted they talk about the current state of Eric’s life. He pointed out that the following day, there would be a house full of people who looked forward to him leading the family. Eric’s retirement didn’t mean that his family no longer needed him. Eric came around, and he looked forward to embracing the season. The last thing he wanted to do was let anyone in the family down. Ridge reminded him that he had a good life and he was surrounded by many family members who loved him wholeheartedly.

After Ridge walked out of the office, Eric took another look at the showroom and held tight to a design on a rack. He spoke to himself and said, “The greatest design of my life, and everyone’s going to see it tomorrow.”
