Steffy told Bill that getting Luna out of prison was sick, even for him. She then told a horrified Luna that she's going back behind bars for good and will never see Finn ever again. Meanwhile, Finn was in his office and recalled Sheila telling him that there was nothing that could sever a bond between a parent and child. A nervous Finn sent Steffy a text message asking how it was going at Bill’s. Then, Li showed up asking for his opinion about a patient. She could see that he was visibly upset, and when she asked what was wrong, he told her there was, “Something I should have told you years ago.”
At the Forrester Mansion, Ridge and Taylor were on the couch in what she referred to as a ‘bubble’ in which Luna didn’t exist, nor did any other obstacle in Steffy’s marriage. They both sadly agreed that neither had forgotten about any of it. Taylor said they raised a strong woman and that Steffy knew what she was doing.
Li asked Finn to tell her what was going on, and he said it had to do with Poppy. He referred to the time years ago when Poppy stayed with their family, and cryptically said something had happened between Poppy and him.
At Ill Giardino, Sheila was admiring Deacon's arms while he was mixing a drink. Meanwhile, a woman was sitting at one of the tables sipping wine and staring at Deacon. Sheila stated that someone seemed thirsty, and Deacon told her to go easy on the customer. Then Poppy showed up and Sheila said maybe Poppy’s the one who needed to go easy. Sheila asked if Poppy wanted her to put an order in, and with a little snark in his voice, Deacon said it might take a while since they were shorthanded because they lost a couple of employees, clearly insinuating the deaths of Tom and Hollis.
When Li probed Finn further, he explained that she and his father were out often, but he didn't feel neglected. He reiterated that Poppy was helping them out and they gave her a place to live. He explained that when he was 18, he and Poppy were alone quite a bit together. He said they became close and started to say, “Then one night…” and Li started to put things together and reacted, “You and my sister?”
Poppy told Deacon how deeply ashamed she was of Luna's actions. Deacon clarified that they were crimes, not actions. Sheila stated that Poppy would never stop loving Luna because nothing can break the bond between a mother and a child. Poppy said it was a lot to process, especially with recent developments. “You still don’t know where she is,” Sheila stated. Poppy said it was just like Luna disappeared.
Taylor told Ridge that what Poppy did was twisted, and tried to imagine how Li would react. “How did we end up in a world where Luna is Finn’s daughter?" she asked. “And Sheila’s his birth mother. The poor kid,” Ridge added. Taylor corrected him with, “Our poor daughter! This is horrifying!” Taylor said the only saving grace was that Luna was behind bars for the rest of her life.
Steffy told Bill that she thought he cared about her and his granddaughter, adding, “Instead, you let this monster loose.” Luna reiterated that she’s still serving her time, just not in prison. Steffy scoffed that it was Bill's estate. “Really? That’s a pretty cushy sentence for killing two men and putting me in a cage, leaving me to die.”
Steffy then accused Bill of allowing it and he said he didn't expect her to understand it. He further explained that he and Luna shared a deep, profound understanding of each other, based on the trauma they experienced as children. Disbelieving that he was serious, Steffy yelled at him that the ‘lunatic’ would have left her children motherless, and almost destroyed her family. She further yelled that Luna should never see the outside of a prison ever again. Steffy then threatened to call the cops and pulled out her phone.
At the hospital, Li tried to catch her breath after hearing what Finn told her. “I can’t believe it! You were just a child,” she said. Finn started to say that he was 18, but Li said Poppy took advantage of him. Li looked like she was going to throw up and said she was sick about it. Finn said he never wanted her to know about any of it. He said the only reason he was telling her now was that he had recently learned something. He said that Poppy and he never talked about it, they just wanted to move on and just wanted to forget it. A scared Li asked him to elaborate. He told her that she had proven that Tom Starr and Jack weren’t Luna’s father.
Finn was cryptic at first, noting that something happened to Poppy and she lied to him about it. Li pressed further and he finally admitted that Luna was his daughter. Li then burst into tears in disbelief.
Steffy told Luna that Finn couldn’t help her now and she was going back to prison. But then Ridge called her and Steffy answered saying she couldn't talk because she had an important call to make. Steffy explained she was at Bill's with Luna, and that Bill got Luna out of jail and had her under house arrest at his place. “There’s no way,” said Ridge, and Steffy replied, “It’s real, I’m staring at both of them.” Ridge told her to stay put because he and Taylor were on their way. He then informed Taylor of what was going on.
Li thought the story was just another one of Poppy's lies, but Finn told her that after she proved Tom Starr wasn't Luna's father, he got a sample of Luna's blood from the lab and took two paternity tests that proved he was Luna’s father. “My sister…and my son…under my own roof,” Li lamented. She said she couldn’t imagine Steffy’s reaction. Finn said his heart was breaking for Steffy because the two had been tested so many times. Li then said they had time to process and heal while Luna was behind bars. But Finn told her that Luna wasn't in prison, and revealed she was serving her sentence under house arrest at Bill's. He further explained that he had seen Luna there and Steffy was now over there. He worried about his wife and Li told him to go. Li then grabbed her phone and texted Poppy, saying she needed to see her at her office right away.
Poppy told Deacon and Sheila the only information she had was that Luna was incarcerated... somewhere. Poppy then got Li’s text and when Sheila said maybe Li had info on Luna’s whereabouts, Poppy doubted it since the prison wouldn’t even tell her, Luna’s mother. With a smile on her face, happy that she and her sister had patched things up, Poppy was off. Meanwhile, Li waited for Poppy, stewing about how she’d been lied to again by her sister.
Luna admitted to Steffy that it seemed ironic that now she was begging Steffy to spare her. She tried to explain that she wasn’t the same person who did all that horrible stuff. Steffy said she wasn't buying it, but Luna insisted it was true and capturing Steffy wasn't supposed to happen. Steffy said that even if the torture she put her through wasn't premeditated, she didn't care and it didn't change her mind. Luna tried appealing to her by saying there was nothing to do at Bill’s except sit around and think about what she had done. She can’t even sleep because the faces of her victims stare back at her when she closes her eyes.
Luna begged Bill to tell Steffy about their conversations and how she could change and atone for her sins. A panicked Luna then reminded Steffy that she was now her stepmother and Steffy told her to stop. She's not going to be a mother figure to her and told her to stop talking. Ridge and Taylor arrived and Ridge yielded at Bill, “What the hell is wrong with you?” He reiterated that Steffy was his daughter that Bill was putting in danger, the mother of Bill's grandchild.
Ridge demanded answers and Bill explained he didn't expect any of them to understand what he was doing. He reiterated that he and Luna have a lot in common, as both suffered significant trauma in their childhoods. He further explained that there were situations that made them both emotionally shut off, causing them to lash out and do horrible things. He said that's why Luna committed those crimes, explaining she was in either fight or flight mode, feeling she had no choice. Ridge told Bill he was delusional.
Bill explained that Luna was almost killed in prison and, “I couldn't just stand there and let that happen.” Taylor chimed in stating that shared childhood trauma wasn't a reason to get Luna out of prison and that he couldn't fix her. Luna was serving her time and her being contained in prison made all of them feel safe. Steffy again told Luna she was going back to prison, and Luna begged for that not to happen because she would die in there. Finn entered the scene. A panicked Luna told Finn they were trying to send her back to prison. She tried to explain how battered she was when Bill got her out and felt Finn wouldn’t let her die in there because they’d just learned about being father and daughter, and they could help heal each other. “The family I’ve always wanted is possible and I can show you guys the real me!” she said.
The episode ended with Luna profusely begging that they didn't send her back to prison.
