At first glance at the paperwork, Justin agreed that it looked like Carter was trying to pull a coup. Brooke and Ridge gave him time to sit at the table in the CEO’s office to review the documents more thoroughly. Over at the desk, Ridge thanked Brooke for telling him the truth even though her daughter was involved. “This is your company. I’m not going to let them take it from you,” Brooke explained. Ridge couldn’t believe Carter would use the papers he handed him to cheat his way into power. “This will never stand up in court,” Ridge fumed. Ridge said Carter was just cheating his way out of the company.
Justin wanted to take a copy of the paperwork to show a colleague and ensure he gave him the best advice. He thought Ridge’s anger was justified but noted that the CEO’s signed off on the change. Justin warned that it may be a more serious situation than he thought. After Justin left, Brooke agreed that what Carter — and Hope — were trying to do was inexcusable. Brooke asked Ridge to remember that it all began with a misunderstanding, and Steffy jumped to conclusions. Brooke insisted she wasn’t trying to justify what Hope and Carter did but asked him to resolve it in a peaceful manner. Ridge said he’d resolve it immediately and messaged Carter.
“Now I wait for the traitor,” Ridge said. Brooke thought waiting for Justin’s advice would be better, but Ridge was confident he’d find a way to solve the problem. Ridge wanted to confront Carter in the meantime. “All this because he has the hots for your daughter,” Ridge told Brooke. Ridge never thought he would see Carter make a career-ending mistake like this, but all of it needed to end immediately.
At the cabin, Hope and Carter lay naked in front of the fire, still discussing how betrayed Ridge would feel when he found out that his best friend betrayed him. Carter said he knew it was the right thing to do, but he dreaded Ridge’s reaction when he found out. Carter got a text message from Ridge asking to see him. Hope thought that was interesting, and Carter wondered if Ridge had changed his mind. Hope gushed that Ridge might want the global luxury brand after all and to reinstate her and her line.

Hope and Carter continued to reiterate Carter’s global luxury brand idea, her hopes for the future, and how much they loved one another. Hope giddily ushered him out the door, believing that this was Carter’s big chance and that Ridge was finally ready to give him what he had demanded.
Brooke came over, and Hope was super excited that Carter had gone off to a big meeting with Ridge. She was hopeful and anxious to hear what it was about. “I can tell you,” Brooke said gravely, “I know.”
Brooke noted it wasn’t strange for Ridge to want to see Carter as he was Ridge’s COO and trusted best friend. Brooke emotionally revealed that she had overheard Hope and Carter talking about a coup, taking over Forrester Creations.
Hope shakily realized that Brooke had told Ridge, and that was why he wanted to see Carter. “Mom! You should have talked to me first!” Hope cried. “Why? So I could be part of your plan?” Brooke snapped. She asked Hope what she was even thinking, planning a coup. “Why don’t you tell me? You’re the one who overheard everything!” Hope clapped back.
Hope told Brooke that she and Carter hadn’t been hiding how they felt about being mistreated at Forrester. Hope raged as she recounted that it was a difficult decision for her and Carter and that they gave Ridge and Steffy every opportunity, but they wouldn’t listen. Brooke said she understood, but it didn’t justify a coup.
“Something needs to change,” Hope cried. She was hysterical as she realized that Carter was walking into Ridge’s office, unaware that Ridge knew the truth. “What is he going to say?! What is he going to do?! Oh my god!” Hope said in a panic. Brooke couldn’t believe what she was witnessing.
Carter entered the CEO’s office and saw Ridge sitting at the desk with his back to the door. Ridge didn’t turn around when Carter announced he was there. Ridge asked if Carter had something to tell him. Carter was silent, so Ridge spun around in his chair and said that he knew what Carter had been up to and what he was doing.
“You know what I’ve been up to?” Carter asked tentatively. “Did it ever occur to you that she was just using you?” Ridge asked Carter. Ridge said he knew about the papers and how Carter was trying to take power away from him and Steffy. “All for Hope,” Ridge said. He asked Carter if he didn’t think Ridge would find out.
“How?” Carter asked. “I’ll trade your ‘how’ for a ‘why,’” Ridge replied. He recounted how he’d seen Carter’s name on the papers but had trusted him as his best friend in the world. “You stabbed me in the back,” Ridge concluded.
Ridge asked if Carter thought he would really get away with it. He told him that papers were child’s play. “What I’m concerned about is why you would do this. Because we passed on your big idea? We’re a fashion house; we wanted to stay a fashion house, that’s all,” Ridge told him, “Or was it because you think Steffy was mean to your new girlfriend?”
Ridge told Carter that he had faith in him the moment he met him, and that was why he made him the company's lawyer. He said he promoted him to COO because he knew he’d always do right by Ridge, the company, and the family that embraced him and always made sure there was a seat at the table for him.
Ridge said Carter threw it all away by getting together with Hope and fighting her cause. “It’s a cause worthy of fighting,” Carter told him. “There’s nothing worthy about any of this! What happened to you? I know what happened. Hope happened to you,” Ridge yelled. He told Carter that this is what Hope does and that she did it to Liam and Thomas.
“She gets her claws into you, molds you. And woos you. Until you love her so much, you can’t breathe. That’s when she drags you away. And where are you in this right now? Cause I see what you’re doing to me. Your friend. Your brother. You stabbed me in the back. For what? For Hope,” Ridge told Carter. He said he was trying to get his head around it. Carter continued to stare at him, lock-jawed and silent.
Ridge told Carter he understood he was frustrated after pouring his heart and soul into a big idea and bringing it to them, but they didn’t take it. “You know business. You know how it works. So, is it really that Steffy was mean to your little girlfriend? You did all this, you betrayed all of us, for that? I’m sorry, but that doesn’t sound like you at all. That sounds like Hope,” Ridge concluded.
Ridge added that the whole “Logans vs Forresters” thing didn’t sound like Carter, either, but sounded like Hope. “And stealing this company from the people that love you, that doesn’t sound like you at all,” Ridge told him. Ridge noted that Steffy told him that Hope was in Carter’s head, and he didn’t believe it then, but he wished he had so he could’ve talked to Carter before he went off the deep end.
“I didn’t see it!” Ridge admitted. Ridge wondered what they would do next. “I know what I want to do; I want to give you another chance,” Ridge said, to Carter’s surprise. He suggested they get rid of the papers and forget about them. “And get rid of the toxic relationship you’re in,” Ridge implored. “You want me to end things with Hope?” Carter asked, incredulous. “Oh, yes. She’s the reason we’re here right now. She did this,” Ridge told him, adding, “Get her out of your life before it’s too late.”
