Brief Character History

Hayley Lawson grew up a neglected child, never knowing her father, who disappeared when her mother got pregnant; young Hayley also had to endure the simmering resentment of her mother over the event. Hayley became friends with Naomi Hamilton, the granddaughter of the wealthy Dupree family, who lived in the gated community of Fairmont Crest in Maryland. Through Naomi's mother, Dani Dupree, Hayley got a job as a paralegal in the law firm of the ruthless Bill Hamilton but soon ran afoul of Naomi, Dani, and the rest of the Duprees when Hayley embarked on an affair with Bill, who was married to Dani.

After Bill divorced Dani, Hayley found herself the town pariah when Bill wanted to have their wedding at Fairmont Crest's country club. Hayley, who had never had money, was moved when Bill bought them a house in Fairmont, but the action got Hayley punched in the face by Dani. Hayley wanted to be able to coexist with the Duprees and extended olive branches to both Dani and her sister, Nicole Dupree, but found herself summarily rejected. Sure that only her co-workers at the firm would be wedding guests, Hayley was shocked when she came down the aisle to see the defiant but present Dupree family in attendance. But Hayley received a bigger shock when the rageful Dani pulled out a gun mid-ceremony and shot at her and Bill.
