Brady’s like a tracking hound because he’s got the scent that something stinks with Sophia’s adoption story. He’s been putting the pieces together, and at the end of last week, he met with the supposed adoption lawyer. This week picked up from there, and it seemed dicey, but Melinda managed to get to her first and made sure their stories (and Sophia’s) aligned. I don’t understand why everyone’s going through all of this when Sophia could simply have given the child to an adoption agency in the first place. The story isn’t world-threatening, but it’s definitely interesting.
Pretty soon, Chad’s going to be the one putting on a PI hat. Every so often, he notices a new facet to Cat, and those things will start to add up for him. She had been very calm, cool, and collected when they were trapped in the elevator and was somewhat resourceful in her attempt to get them free. This week, a bunch of them went mini golfing, and he noticed she was smoking everyone. She chalked it up to being the oldest sibling, so she had more practice. But after a while, he’s going to really notice that she has some serious skills in nearly everything.
We finally got another major piece of the Javi puzzle. Melinda explained that because of Leo’s reputation, they might not be able to adopt Tesoro, but Javi could try as a single person. She told him there would be a thorough background check, so he admitted that it would be a problem, “Because I had a child who died.” It was really sad, and while it had been hinted at previously, we have confirmation. It’s really too bad he doesn’t want Leo to know because he could use the support.
And, of course, we had a ‘BINGO!’ moment when she was eavesdropping on Xander and Philip’s conversation through her pen bug. She basically learned about Philip’s forged letter and brought that info to Tony. Tony wanted to sit on the reveal until the right time came, when they could use it to sever the Titan-DiMera merge. But Gabi seemed to get the impression that Tony was going to double-cross her and not give her the CEO position he’d promised. After she left, Tony had something of a maniacal laugh, which made him seem even more like Andre, so…
LOOSE ENDS

Mark Greene has been mentioned quite a bit. He’s up for a parole hearing, and now Cat’s mother is getting transferred to a place closer to Salem. Do you think a Greene family reunion is happening soon? Does anyone really care? The only interesting thing about the family is that Cat’s a secret ISA agent. Aaron’s cool, and it looks like he might be interested in Arianna, so we’ll see what direction that goes in.
While working in EJ’s office, Cat found blueprints to a proposed new wing of the hospital. Could it be an area that perhaps might have a secret laboratory beneath it? It could be used to create the clone that they want to put Stefano’s consciousness in. Okay, that’s my own theory, but I haven’t heard any better ones yet.
EXTRA SCOOPS
REFERENCES

Okay, the first reference this week is actually mine. I may have mentioned it here, but when Sophia gave Tate a photo of their baby with the adopted parents, it looked to me like it was one of those pics that came with the frame when she bought it. That reminded me of a hilarious moment from the 1989 Tom Hanks horror comedy, The ‘Burbs. In it, Bruce Dern’s character asks a weird neighbor if the girl in a photo in their house was a relative. The young man states, in a foreign accent, “It came with the frame.” So when Tate remarked that Marlena somehow got a pic of the parents, I died laughing as the line was running through my head when Brady said, “Tate, that’s the picture that came with the frame!” I said it at the same time he did, and I am laughing even as I write this! If you haven’t seen The ‘Burbs, I HIGHLY recommend it!!
Marlena had flashbacks in a dream again to being Stefano’s Queen of the Night. One line they kept repeating, even in last week’s flashbacks, was her saying, “How do you do?” In this modern age, politeness seems to have gone down the toilet, but that greeting originated in the 1600s. It comes from the phrases, “How do you fare?” or “How do you be?” It evolved into a formal greeting that you use when you first meet someone, and I always use it on those occasions. I’ve even taught my children to use it when teaching them about manners, and more people should start being polite these days.
At Titan-DiMera, when Philip asked Xander how his session with Marlena went, Xander explained that they talked about what happened, meaning the forged letter from Victor. Philip wanted clarification if ‘what happened’ was indeed that incident, and Xander retorted, “No, between Ren and Stimpy! Of course, us!” Ren and Stimpy, of course, are cartoon characters that had a popular show on Nickelodeon. The series followed the misadventures of Ren Höek, an emotionally unstable and often psychotic chihuahua, and Stimpy, who was a good-natured and dimwitted cat.
SHOT OF THE WEEK

Philip was eating strawberries and started choking. Xander rushed to the rescue and gave him the Heimlich maneuver, causing a strawberry to go flying out of Philip’s mouth. He was, of course, faking choking just to see if he could trust Xander. Although super disgusting, seeing the fruit go flying and the horrified look on Xander’s face was worth the price of a Peacock subscription.
TONY’S OUTFIT OF THE WEEK

This week, Tony was wearing a sharp, semi-formal look that had a business casual flair. He had on a black blazer that had a relaxed fit, with no tie. He also had a black button-down shirt with the top buttons undone, and a red pocket square with a patterned design was tucked neatly into his breast pocket, adding a pop of color and sophistication.
LINE(S) OF THE WEEK

At the mini golf place, Chad and Thomas bumped into Cat. Chad told her how doing mini golf the day before school started was their family tradition, but he was glad Charlotte couldn’t make it. Thomas said, “We asked Charlotte to come, but she had a playdate with her best friend Lili.” Chad then added, “Which I am very relieved by, because the last time we played, she almost hit me in the head with a golf club.” Cat hilariously responded, “Well, that’s one way to come in under par.”
Chad then tells Cat how Thomas always beats him, and Thomas explained that his dad always messes up at the dinosaur. Chad then hysterically stated, “Oh, he’s my arch-nemesis. And he always closes his teeth just as my ball’s about to go in his mouth.” The look on Cat’s face as she was speechless was priceless. I got the impression that Billy Flynn was struggling to keep a straight face after delivering that line!
After Thomas walks away, Cat asks Chad, “So…the T-Rex, huh?”
Philip told Xander that he’d agreed to peacefully co-exist, but has been nothing but nasty to him 24/7. Xander’s response was, “Because you’re so incredibly annoying, Philip. I mean, between your absurd stretching routine and your constant fidgeting, it’s like sharing the office with an over-caffeinated yoga instructor!”
Xander later said to Philip, “No matter what’s between us or how much you annoy the living crap out of me, we’re still brothers.”
REACTION OF THE WEEK

Marlena woke up from her crazy dream, and as she was sitting in her bed, she freaked out because Rachel’s pet snake, S’mores, got loose yet again and was in her bed! They didn’t show the creature, but it was enough to give me the willies as well.
RANDOM THOUGHTS

I predict that once Johnny and Chanel truly get back on track, they’ll want to adopt Tesoro and will end up clashing with Leo and Javi over it. And Javi seems to be having second thoughts about giving the child back so it can be adopted. It’s possible Brady and Tate could jump on the bandwagon and want the baby back.
I love how Xander’s trying to better himself, fighting against his inner rage. It’s nice to see characters grow and evolve, especially in a medium where you literally have all year to tell a story, not just a handful of episodes.
Maggie told someone that she was looking for something to do. I think she should go in on purchasing the bookshop with Julie and see what hijinks occur when they run it together. It has Lucy and Ethel potential written all over it.
PARTING THOUGHTS

I’m looking forward to finding out more about Javi’s backstory. It seems his immediate family, like Rafe and Ariana, knew about it, and now he talked about it with Melinda. We’ll probably get more as the weeks progress, and a slow burn is okay. I highly doubt it’s the kind of secret that would break up him and Leo, and I feel that Leo will be very supportive when he finds out.
OUTRO
As always, thanks for joining me this week, DOOL-ers! Catch me later when I finally explain Schrödinger’s cat…assuming the cat feels like showing up.
