Welcome to the Days of our Lives Daily Y.A.P.P. (Your After-Program Ponderings) for a quick — and by that, I mean you’re already halfway done — recap of the most amazing or what-the-heck-did-we-just-watch moments on today’s episode. Let’s get to it:
What happened on Days of our Lives

It was pretty clear as soon as the latest weekly Days of our Lives promo was released that John Black would die after an explosion takes place while he's trying to get the drug that could save Bo. We have also known for months that we would not see John, as Drake Hogestyn sadly passed away last fall, and this would be John Black's exit story. However, there is way too much cruelty in ending the life of John Black this way. Fans hoped and prayed he would see Marlena one last time before he died, but it doesn't appear that is meant to be. (Paul walked through the door when she was expecting John.) We had also hoped we would just hear John had arrived, but instead we saw a dark figure in a hoodie and heard a recording of his signature line, "That's a fact." When an actor who was synonymous with a role for decades passes, that is not what soap fans want to see, as it leaves a bad taste in our mouths and almost feels disrespectful. An entire story of John being on a mysterious mission was crafted just so the character could die in Salem as a hero, saving fellow hero Bo Brady. While that may look great on paper, it doesn't translate well onto the screen. DAYS was forced to write this death in, but fans would have been better served if John had died halfway around the world, with us knowing Marlena was by his side. Hopefully, she still gets that chance in Salem.
