Days of our Lives Daily YAPP Recap, August 19: Of course it was Rachel, but one problem...

Welcome to the Days of our Lives Daily Y.A.P.P. (Your After-Program Ponderings) for a quick — and by that, I mean you’re already halfway done — recap of the most amazing or what-the-heck-did-we-just-watch moments on today’s episode. Let’s get to it:

What happened on Days of our Lives

It's been clear for months that it was Rachel who shot EJ, and now we know we were right. She had been acting strangely since day one, and it couldn't just be because she saw Johnny with a gun. While we thought she was just playing around with a gun and accidentally shot her uncle, it seems that Rachel had purpose. She wanted EJ to tell her where he had stashed Rachel Blake weeks earlier. When EJ finally flashed back to the confrontation, it wasn't a shock to see Rachel with a gun at all, but when was the time for this confrontation? We saw EJ get shot. He picked up his drink, turned around, saw someone with a gun, asked what the person was doing, and a split second later, a shot rang out, and EJ was down. However, in EJ's memories, we see Rachel demanding answers about her grandmother and EJ gently trying to reason with her so she'd put the gun down. This is a glaring error in an otherwise fascinating mystery and very unusual soap opera trial. We know that a new writing team's work began airing soon after EJ's shooting, but could the new scripts have taken the timing of EJ seeing his shooter and the shooter pulling the trigger better, so it actually made sense with the original scenes?
