Welcome to the Days of our Lives Daily Y.A.P.P. (Your After-Program Ponderings) for a quick — and by that, I mean you’re already halfway done — recap of the most amazing or what-the-heck-did-we-just-watch moments on today’s episode. Let’s get to it:

What happened on Days of our Lives

We've known it was coming since last fall: the end of John Black, a man with many aliases, a vague and complicated past, but a rich and heroic Salem history that makes him a soap opera legend along with the actor who played him for nearly 40 years, Drake Hogestyn. On a day when Bo and Hope celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary, John swooped in to save the day as he has so many times before. Seeing Hope in action was an added touch (we assume Bo was not in Greece after all, because we are sure Hope didn't beam herself in and out of Salem), but the day belonged to John Black. Marlena and Steve worked long and hard to bring John home, but John could never stop playing the hero, so he had to do just one thing before returning to his Doc. Sadly, his last heroic act was also possibly his best. John may have been injured and burned, but he got the Versavix. As the nurse administered it in Bo's IV and his family prayed, Marlena sat by her husband's side and begged him to live. It wasn't lost on us that John was about to leave us the same way he came to us, a hero in bandages. Days of our Lives flashed back to the moment The Pawn looked at himself in the mirror and saw his new face. Except this time, he knew exactly who he was as he said goodbye to his beloved Doc one last time.
