Days of our Lives Daily YAPP Recap, September 5: JJ Deveraux needs a storyline

Welcome to Days of our Lives Daily Y.A.P.P. (Your After-Program Ponderings) for a quick — and by that, I mean you’re already halfway done — recap of the most amazing or what-the-heck-did-we-just-watch moments on today’s episode. Let’s get to it:

What happened on Days of our Lives

When JJ Deveraux returned to Salem and Days of our Lives last year, he did so with much promise. The show immediately decided to re-pair him with Gabi, and it seemed to be working, even if a different actress was playing her. Unfortunately, they never made it to the front burner, and DAYS soon split them up for no apparent reason. Since then, we hardly remember that JJ lives in Salem and is a cop. We rarely see him unless there is a crime, and even when there is a crime, we see Jada and Shawn a whole lot more than we see JJ. Today, out of nowhere, JJ suddenly had a birthday party that was so important that Jack and Jennifer returned to town for it. Suddenly, we remembered that JJ is a part of the canvas, but why did it take a pointless birthday party to remind us of this? JJ is a legacy character, the son of 1980s supercouple Jack and Jennifer. There is no reason to give him short shrift. Instead, DAYS needs to give him a love interest and an actual storyline. Since Gabi's "relationship" with Philip is based on a lie and she just betrayed him, there's no reason that the soap can't give JJ and Gabi another go. At least it would give the character something to do and right a wrong that happened when Gabi and JJ broke up.
