In the Horton living room, a furious Jennifer informed Jack that Chad was going on a skydiving date with Cat. “Out of all the stupid, reckless things you can do, he is choosing to jump out of an airplane,” Jennifer muttered. “I don’t get it. I mean, after everything that woman put this family through. I mean he’s asking her out on a date?” Jack said. Jennifer explained about the fundraiser and that Chad had taken EJ’s place.

“[Cat] manipulated the situation, and then she manipulated Chad. And I’m telling you right now, she is not going to get away with it,” Jennifer said. Jack argued that Chad’s personal life was off limits to them, and he noted that Cat was not interested in Chad’s money. “Why does it sound like you’re defending her?” Jennifer asked. Jack swore that he had no interest in defending Cat after what she had done to the family.

“I am asking you, us, to try to understand why he would let her back into his life in the first place. He’s lonely. He’s alone. And I don’t know if he is ever going to recover from the trauma of losing Abigail,” Jack advised. Jack added that Chad might still have residual feelings for Cat from when Chad had thought that Cat was Abigail.

“You’re right. That is probably it. And whatever lingering feelings I have for her of anger and revulsion, I have to remember that it was Clyde who was behind all the misery that she put us through, all the mind games that she put us through,” Jennifer said. With a sigh, Jack noted that Jennifer was the only one who had known for certain that Cat was not Abigail. “I did. I’m a mother. I felt it in my soul, Jack,” Jennifer said. Jack fought back tears and said, “I wish I’d felt that.” Jennifer told Jack that she did not blame him or Chad for having fallen for Cat’s story.

“You wanted to believe that Abigail was alive. And so you did believe it. And I was envious, because you had joy. And you had this relief that she was back. Even if it was for a brief time,” Jennifer said. “Still. You felt it in your soul,” Jack noted. Jennifer nodded yes. Jack asked Jennifer what her soul was telling her now about Abigail. “My soul is telling me that Abigail is gone. Even though I would give anything, my own life, to be wrong,” Jennifer said. “Seemingly impossible things happen in Salem every day,” Jack joked. Jennifer nodded yes, but she added that they could not continue to hope for a miracle. Jack agreed.

“It’s been three long years since we lost her,” Jack said. “Nearly to the day,” Jennifer whispered. With a sigh, Jack noted that the anniversary was a week away. “Feels like a lifetime ago,” Jennifer said. Jack admitted that sometimes he forgot that Abigail was gone. “We have to accept that she’s gone,” Jack said. Jennifer nodded yes. “We have to move on with our lives. And so does Chad,” Jack said. “I know. Just not with Cat Greene,” Jennifer grumbled.

At the airfield, the skydiving instructor handed release forms to Cat and Chad to sign. Chad was uneasy, but Cat assured Chad that it was safe. “You must not be too worried, or else you wouldn’t be here with this pretty lady, right?” the instructor said. Chad and Cat dressed in their jumpsuits as the instructor gave them directions about the jump. When Chad worried aloud that he would forget what to do, Cat advised Chad to cross his heart so he would know which loop to pull.

“I guarantee you, you will survive this. You might even have fun,” the instructor said. “Well, I’m focused on the survival part right now,” Chad countered. The instructor agreed that it was the priority. Cat checked Chad’s jumpsuit, and she asked him if he was ready. “Ready as I’ll ever be,” Chad grumbled. “You sure you want to do this?” Cat asked Chad. Chad said he was nervous, but he was ready to jump.

After the jump, Chad landed badly on his left ankle. Cat had to help Chad hop back to the airfield office. “In the future, you need to tuck into the L-shape when you land. Remember the practice rules we did?” the instructor said. Annoyed, Chad bitterly said he had been focused on which loops to pull for his parachutes. “Well, now you know for next time,” the instructor said. While the instructor went to retrieve ice for Chad’s ankle, Cat sighed.

“So much for our fun date,” Cat said. “No. I actually had a lot of fun,” Chad said. Cat laughed. Chad admitted that after his terror subsided, he had enjoyed his time in the air. “All my problems went away, just like you said they would. It just felt like I was at peace, I was just in the moment,” Chad said. Chad complimented Cat’s landing.

When Cat helped Chad into the Horton living room, Chad thanked her for her help getting home. Jack and Jennifer walked into the room. “Cat, you need to get out of my family’s home right now,” Jennifer said. Cat left. Chad apologized to Jennifer. “I never would have come home like that if I’d have known you were here,” Chad said. “That’s what you’re sorry about?” Jennifer said with a look of disgust. Jennifer argued that she was more upset that Chad had gone on a date with the woman that had impersonated Abigail.

“It wasn’t a romantic thing,” Chad argued. “Julie told me. You were worried about EJ going on a date with Cat. What I want to know is why? Why do you even care? Why do you want to spend time with the woman who hurt you so badly? Who hurt us all?” Jennifer asked. Jennifer retrieved an ice pack for Chad’s ankle. Chad wanted to pick the kids up from school, but Jack insisted he and Jennifer would go instead so that Chad could rest his ankle. “And I’m just glad that [the kids] were not here when you came home from your little date, because after everything those kids have been through, the last thing they need is Cat Greene in their lives,” Jennifer said.

After Jack and Jennifer left, Chad called Cat and apologized. “It is not your fault. And Jack and Jennifer have every right to feel exactly the way that they feel about me. I’m just sorry for causing your family so much trouble. And I want you to know that that’s not gonna happen anymore, okay? Because from now on, I’m going to stay away from you,” Cat said. Cat ended the call.

At the penthouse, Carrie and Marlena flipped through a photo album and smiled at old pictures of the family. Amy and Sofia knocked on the front door. After introductions to Carrie, Amy explained that they were there to pick up Tate for the maternity ward tour. “Since we were stopping by anyway, I thought I’d bring you some Mandu,” Amy said. Amy handed a plate to Marlena. “Korean dumplings. They’re really good,” Sophia explained. Marlena thanked Amy.

“We’re sorry for all of you. John was a really good man,” Amy said. “I wasn’t aware that you knew him,” Marlena said. Sophia explained that John had once helped her mother with a flat tire on the way to Sophia’s kindergarten graduation.

“I was beside myself. Thinking I’d miss the graduation. And then John appeared, changed the tire on the spot. And he wouldn’t accept any money for his trouble. I made it to the school just in time to see Sophia on the stage,” Amy said. Amy told Marlena that she was thankful for John’s kindness. Marlena smiled, and she thanked Amy for telling her the story.

After Tate left with Amy and Sophia, Sami called Marlena. Carrie took the Mandu into the kitchen so that Marlena could talk to Sami privately. Sami told Marlena that Sydney’s surgery had been successful and that she was on the mend. “I know that you’re sorry to have missed the service. And I know you would have liked to say goodbye,” Marlena said. Marlena told Sami that John would have understood.

Kate was sitting in the waiting area of the hospital and reading Stephanie’s novel when Anna said hello. Anna explained that she and Tony had ended their trip early so that they could attend John’s funeral. “It’s so terribly sad, isn’t it?” Anna said. Kate agreed. “[John] was really a wonderful guy,” Kate said. With a shake of her head, Anna said she was concerned about Marlena. Kate reminded Anna that Marlena was a tough woman. Anna asked Kate why she was at the hospital, and she said she was there for Philip.

“Of course! I’m so sorry. I heard about that too. What a dreadful thing. How is he doing?” Anna asked. Kate said that there was no change yet, but she was hopeful. Anna promised that she and Tony would pray for Philip. Anna noticed Kate’s binder, and she asked about it. Kate said it was a project she was working on. “But you’re still working at the pub with Roman, right?” Anna asked. After a moment, Kate nodded yes, and she said she liked to have options.

Anna announced that she had photos of her grandson’s graduation on her phone, and Kate rolled her eyes. As Anna talked about the ceremony, Kate interrupted to note that Austin had sent her a recording of Noah’s graduation. “It was a lovely ceremony,” Kate said. Anna noted that live was better than video.

“And it’s such a shame that Carrie had to miss it too,” Anna said. Anna noted that it had been more important for Carrie to return to Salem than stay for the ceremony. “[Carrie] loved John so much. Just like so many did,” Anna said. Kate’s phone beeped, and Kate excused herself to go check on her son. After Kate walked away, Anna noticed that she had left her binder behind. Anna picked the binder up and she read the opening of Stephanie’s book. “Oh my. Well, Kate, if you wrote this, then Roman is a very lucky guy,” Anna said. Anna put the binder back down on the chair and walked away.

Amy arrived at the hospital with Tate and Sophia, and she lectured them about emergency procedures to follow if the birthing plan fell apart. “Let’s get you a wheelchair,” Amy said. Sophia insisted she was fine, but Amy pointed out that Sophia was on modified bed rest and needed to stay off her feet. The labor and delivery nurse, Maddie, introduced herself to the threesome. Amy started to rattle off a checklist of stuff she expected to review on the tour. Sophia and Tate shifted with discomfort.

While Maddie talked to Amy, Sophia, and Tate, Kate returned to the area to look for the manuscript she had left behind. Kate did not see it, and she kept walking. Across the room, Amy saw the manuscript on a chair, and she started to read it. While Maddie went to retrieve the wheelchair for Sophia, Kate returned. Amy hid the manuscript behind her purse as Kate asked Sophia if she was okay. Sophia explained that they were there for a tour.

“I have to say, you are so collected and cool for a mom whose teenage daughter is about to have a baby,” Kate told Amy. With a chuckle, Kate noted that when her teenage grandson had become a father, she had not been calm at all. “Then we are birds of a feather. I’m actually quite a worrier,” Amy said. Amy admitted that she was a helicopter parent. “They grow up so quickly,” Amy said. “They certainly do. And if you think you’re going to worry any less when they’re all grown up, think again,” Kate said.

Kate walked down the hall to Philip’s room, and she talked to her unconscious son. “I know how strong you are and how you persevere. But, Philip, you have to wake up. Because the sooner you do, the sooner we can prove that Xander is the one that did this to you,” Kate said. Kate vowed to make Xander pay. Belle called Kate.

“I’m glad you called, because I haven’t had a chance to tell you how sorry I am about John,” Kate said. Belle asked about Philip, and Kate said he was okay. “I have to tell you, I have such peace of mind knowing that Xander is arrested,” Kate said. Belle informed Kate that Xander was out on bail. Kate was furious. “No one in Salem is safe with him around,” Kate argued. Kate demanded that Belle act. After Kate ended her call, she promised Philip that she would not leave his side. “It’s my job to protect you with my life. I promise you that Xander will never, ever lay a finger on you again,” Kate said.

As Maddie wheeled Sophia around during the tour, Amy peppered the nurse with questions about the process. Amy talked about the epidural and Sophia’s fear of needles, and Sophia’s face winced. “I think I’m going to be sick,” Sophia said. Sophia jumped out of her wheelchair and ran to the bathroom.

When Sophia returned, Tate was alone. Tate explained that Amy had gone to get a bottle of water for Sophia, and he asked Sophia how she felt. “I’m okay,” Sophia said. Sophia explained that between the birthing video and Amy talking about the process, she had been overwhelmed. “I know. It’s really intense,” Tate agreed. Sophia said she had intellectually known what would happen, but seeing the process so vividly had been upsetting.

“I had no idea that it was going to be all so gross and not to mention painful,” Sophia said. Tate promised to be with Sophia through the whole process. “No, you won’t. I don’t want you anywhere near the delivery room,” Sophia said. Tate was taken aback, but Sophia explained that she did not want Tate to see her in that state. Tate started to object, and Sophia looked away. Tate apologized. Sophia asked Tate to help her with all the non-birth-related items on their to-do list.

Down the hallway, Amy returned with the bottle of water in one hand and Stephanie’s manuscript in the other. Amy continued to read through it. Sophia spotted her mother across the hallway, and she called out to her. Amy closed the binder, and she left it on the desk at the nurses’ station.

Anna went to the penthouse to see Carrie and Marlena. “I have no words, which is rare for me, I know. I’m just more sorry than I can say,” Anna told Marlena. Marlena thanked Anna for visiting. “Tony and I wouldn’t be anywhere else,” Anna said. While Anna showed Carrie photos of Noah’s graduation, Marlena appeared preoccupied by a note. Anna asked Marlena if she wanted to see the photos. Shaken from her reverie, Marlena smiled and looked at the pictures on Anna’s phone.

“What a great smile he has. I’m sorry. I was just distracted,” Marlena said. “Don’t you apologize for anything. I’m just so heartbroken for you,” Anna said. Anna told Marlena that Tony sent his love and that he would see her at the funeral. “I must say that hearing what John meant to so many people really is comforting. I guess, after the funeral when all the flowers are wilted and everybody’s gone home, it’s going to be a little quiet around here,” Marlena said. Anna sniffled back tears.

“What a flood of self-pity! That’s so unlike me,” Marlena said. Marlena assured Carrie and Anna that she would be fine. “You don’t need to worry about dealing with this on your own. I can stay as long as you need me to,” Carrie said. “My sweet girl. You’re so kind. You can’t do that,” Marlena said. Marlena reminded Carrie that she needed to return to her own life.

“And I’m going to have to find a way to move forward in this new life that I have,” Marlena said. Anna held Marlena’s hand, and she told Marlena that she had helped so many people. “I just hope you can do that for yourself,” Anna said. Marlena promised to try. Carrie reminded Marlena that she had a large family and a community there to support her. Marlena furrowed her brow, and she announced that she did not feel well. Carrie encouraged Marlena to lie down and rest. With a nod, Marlena agreed. “Thank you both,” Marlena whispered.

After Marlena left the room, Carrie teared up. “I want to help her, but I don’t know what to do,” Carrie said. “I know, sweetheart, we all want to help her, but I’m not sure that right now, there’s anything we can do,” Anna said. Anna noted that the only thing that could help Marlena’s pain was time. “And that never works fast enough,” Anna said. Carrie hugged her mother.
