This week on Days of our Lives, Steve decided to close Black Patch. Kayla had conflicted emotions about the move, but Steve said he was ready to retire. Stephanie decided to throw a retirement dinner for him.

Rachel confessed to Brady that she thought her dream about John’s death had caused his actual death. Brady reassured his daughter that she had not caused her grandfather’s death. Brady told Rachel that she had dreamed about John because he had wanted to say goodbye to her.

At the funeral, Marlena’s family rallied around her before the service. Steve apologized to Marlena, but she reminded Steve that he could not have stopped John. Belle admitted to Carrie and Brady that she was uncertain about her future with EJ because she did not think John would approve. Ari told Tate that she had stayed out all night with a boy, but she did not mention Doug III’s name. Tate warned Ari not to end up like him and Sophia. As the service was about to begin, Rachel grew more upset. Tate and Ari took her home so that Brady could stay for the funeral.

At the rehabilitation hospital, Hope told Bo about John’s death. Bo was eager to attend the funeral. The doctor refused to release Bo. Hope argued that if anything happened to Bo because he left treatment, it would nullify John’s sacrifice. Bo pushed until Hope agreed to drive him to the service.

In Salem, the funeral started. Eric presided over the service. John’s friends and family told stories about him being a hero, a baseball fan, and a man who loved to laugh. Eric read a statement from Sami since she could not attend. Sami praised John for the lessons he had taught her, and how he had made her life better. Carrie spoke about John and Marlena’s wedding. Belle, Carrie, Eric, Brady, and Paul recreated the flower ceremony from that wedding. Brady talked about the versatility of John’s eyebrow, and made everyone laugh. An emotional Marlena spoke about her bond to John and how their love had transcended even death.

Bo arrived late to the funeral, and he spoke about when he had first met John. Bo talked about John’s deep compassion. Kate spoke privately to John’s ashes after the service. Marlena noticed that someone had sent her lilacs, and she thought about how John had frequently done that. Brady placed the plaques from Isabella’s gondola with John’s memorabilia. Kayla informed Marlena that the gold coin she had given John had disappeared.

Steve, Kayla, Roman, Shane, Bo, and Marlena returned to the pub to toast to John. Marlena told the group that she was grateful for her memories of John and them. Marlena toasted to all of the group. With a grin, Bo talked about old adventures with John. The group reminisced about the Pawn. Marlena talked about how counseling Roman through his amnesia had helped them fall in love. Marlena talked about John’s search for his identity. The group reminisced about old adversaries and victories. Shane reminded everyone that their friendships with one another had gotten them all through rough times.

Marlena said John had saved her many times, even when she had put John’s life in danger. Marlena stressed that she would never say goodbye to John, because he was always with her. When Bo heard about Steve’s retirement, he suggested that he and Hope join Steve at Black Patch. Steve said he would think about it.

Jack, Jennifer, and JJ, stayed behind at the cemetery to visit Abigail’s grave. Jennifer was too overcome, so she returned home. Julie and Jennifer talked about their grief. When Hope joined them, Julie and Hope reminisced about Bo’s past with Hope. Julie noted that Bo and Hope’s love had gotten them through some bad times. Jennifer said the cruise of deception had made her realize that Jack was her soulmate.

Kate informed Alex that she had lost the One Stormy Night manuscript. Alex insisted that he still wanted to hire Kate despite her mistake, but Kate refused to work for Xander. Kate agreed to reconsider the offer if Xander went to prison and was removed as CEO. At the hospital, Kayla found the wayward manuscript and started to read it.

Shawn apologized to Jada for having lied to her about being sick. Jada admitted that she had learned most of the truth from Belle, and she told Shawn that she understood. Belle apologized to Shawn for having told Jada the truth. Shawn shrugged it off. Shawn told Belle that although he could not be there for her as he had in the past, he would always be there if she needed him. EJ saw them hug one another.

Sarah offered a deal to Xander for supervised visitation with Victoria, and he accepted it. When Xander repeated his claim that Sarah’s lie had made his anger toward Philp worse because of their brotherly bond, Sarah refused to be blamed. Sarah told Xander that when Philip woke up, he would identify Xander as his attacker, and Xander would lose everything. Xander went to the hospital and crept into Philip’s room while he was alone. Xander picked up a pillow.
