Days of our Lives star Alice Halsey saw her story ramped up this week as Rachel spoke one way to adults, and another to Thomas. The actress shows that her character can turn on a dime with scary precision. We’re honoring Halsey with our Performer of the Week honors for DAYS.
Alice Halsey, Performer of the Week, Days of our Lives

Halsey caught our eye this week when a timid Rachel approached Marlena (Deidre Hall) and asked if what she discussed in her therapy sessions would ever be repeated to anyone. Why? “I said something I shouldn’t have to Thomas (Cary Christopher),” Rachel sheepishly said. “And I don’t want you to be mad when you find out.”
After revealing that she blabbed to Thomas that she not only saw his dad, Chad, kiss Cat (AnnaLynne McCord), but that Cat also pretended to be Abigail (Marci Miller). She shared that she was mad at Thomas and, why she did what she had done. “But now I feel bad and I’m really sorry,” Rachel said convincingly.
Halsey brought the right amount of genuine remorse, but also “there’s something else going on underneath” to her performance. Marlena’s reaction to her confession is tempered with the knowledge that Rachel was the one who shot her Uncle EJ (Dan Feueriegel).
Marlena brought Rachel to the Horton home so she could do what every youngster who’s ever made a mistake dreads – apologize to a grown-up. Rachel appeared truly remorseful to her Uncle Chad when she took the blame for Thomas not going to school that day. Rachel was hesitant to accept Chad’s offer to go upstairs to see Thomas, but, in reality, she couldn’t wait to reconnect with her cousin.
She asked her cousin’s forgiveness for what she revealed to him, but Thomas told her he was glad that Rachel gave him the scoop, as Chad had broken up with Cat. “Now, all you have to do is make sure they stay broken up,” Rachel said in a cold tone that would do Rhoda Penmark proud.
Thomas innocently asked how he could make sure his dad and Cat remain apart. “That’s easy,” Rachel shrugged. “I’ve done it a bunch of times. First with Chloe [Nadia Bjorln], the ‘opera singer,’” Rachel noted, looking disgusted (or “grossed out” as the kids might say).
Days of our Lives, she's only just begun

Rachel said that she got Ava Vitale (Tamara Braun) to leave, too, and “she went all the way to China” (or Genoa City, IYKYK). The Days of our Lives young actress pointed out that as long as Cat was in town, there was the chance that Chad could always go back to her.
Next, Rachel returned to the living room. She informed Marlena and Chad that she was sorry, and he said it was okay. Anything else? All Rachel put forth was that she wanted a cookie. (Causing trouble works up such an appetite, doesn’t it?)
Halsey’s Rachel never rests on her laurels. Later, she and Marlena were at the Brady Pub with Brady (Eric Martsolf), her father. Just then, EJ appeared. He exchanged pleasantries with Brady, and then he asked Rachel how she was. Halsey took a long beat, and then replied with the words, “I’m okay,” but what she played was, “Who said you could even talk to me!”
Or maybe there’s even more. Perhaps Rachel realizes on a subconscious level that she did shoot EJ. Dare we theorize that perhaps Rachel does remember what she did? And she’s looking at EJ like, “You shouldn’t even be here!”
Brava to Halsey for bringing a sociopathic edge to the hurt little girl who has seen her mother, Kristen (Stacy Haiduk), go off to jail for a crime that she committed.
