The Days of our Lives story of Xander and Sarah breaking up over the truth coming out regarding his attack on Philip is the gift that keeps on giving. First, Sarah's portrayer, Linsey Godfrey, earned Soap Central's Performer of the Week honors for her performance in this story. Now, Suzanne Rogers is receiving this week's honors as Maggie has given her son-in-law a piece of her mind.

Xander (Daytime Emmy-winner Paul Telfer) showed up at Titan, hoping, perhaps, to take his mind off his marital woes by throwing himself into work. Guess again, big guy. He was confronted by a very confident Maggie, who informed him that he would be keeping his title at Titan, but he'd be just a figurehead. Xander quipped that Maggie must have thought that she'd be running the company in his place.

"It isn't a fantasy," Maggie said with great confidence. Xander's face sank when Victor's (John Aniston) widow said that Philip would be operating Titan with her.

Rogers's Maggie was never one to be put in the middle of business stories before she married Victor. Maggie operated her farm, mothered her children, and ran Chez Rouge. It's not Maggie's business acumen that makes her shine in her current story, but something she's always had -- her passionate love for her daughters.

Maggie dressed down Xander not as a businesswoman but as a mother, someone determined to protect Sarah from Xander's evil ways. "It breaks my heart," Maggie said. "I saw such promise in you. I believed in you. You didn't just hurt Philip, you tried to kill him. And then you lied about it. That's not a mistake. That's not an error in judgment. That's who you are....and no amount of time, faith, or therapy is going to change that."

Maggie presented Xander with an option -- accept her terms or she'd send him to jail. "No deal," Xander said, calling her bluff. "Then, prison it is," she shrugged.

Holding her ground

Rogers chose to have Maggie not give an inch to Xander, who predicted Victor's legacy would go up in smoke. "We're not burning anything down," Maggie said as she stood up on her feet, a sign that she wasn't backing away.

While Xander didn't shake Maggie, Philip did by telling his stepmother that he refused to send Xander to prison. "You made a stupid mistake -- he nearly killed you!" an incredulous Maggie said to Philip.

Philip pointed out that Maggie couldn't send his brother to jail without his cooperation. "Don't underestimate what I'm capable of," Maggie said, as Rogers upped her character's position.

While Maggie ultimately allowed herself to be swayed by Philip's argument, Rogers didn't drop her character's resolve on where Xander stands with her. He's still on the outs.

Brava to Rogers for showing that Maggie's love of family on Days of our Lives can be on full display not only at home but also in the business world.
