In the hospital, Susan encouraged Belle to take EJ’s hand and tell him she loved him. Reluctantly, Belle held EJ’s hand, and she said, “EJ, I love you.” EJ’s vitals started to speed up, and his eyes slowly opened. Susan yelped with joy. “Elvis, honey, it’s your mama. Can you hear me?” Susan asked. EJ nodded yes. Susan noted that Belle had also been worried, and she stepped aside so that EJ could see her. Belle left to find a doctor. “Don’t speak. Just relax,” Susan whispered. Susan told EJ he was safe.

As Belle paced by the nurses’ station, Susan joined her. “Has he said anything yet?” Belle asked. Susan said no. Belle said she wanted to update the family, and then she would join Susan. After Susan returned to EJ’s room, Belle looked heavenward, and she said she was thankful that EJ would be okay. “I’m just not sure I’m ready to face him yet,” Belle whispered.

At the penthouse, Sophia asked Tate about John. “He’s still missing,” Tate said. Tate thanked Sophia for her concern, and he asked her why she had stopped by. Sophia explained that her mother had been praying over the adoption idea. “I have a feeling she’s finally made a decision,” Sophia said. Tate asked Sophia if she knew her mom’s decision, but Sophia admitted that she was not sure.

Sophia changed the subject to the birth, and she confided to Tate that she was scared. “Maybe I can help,” Tate said. Tate offered to be there for Sophia during labor. “I think I really need someone who’s gonna keep me calm and not drive me insane,” Sophia said. “In that case, I’m your man,” Tate said with a grin.

At the Carver-Price household, Chanel asked Paulina if she planned to attend the hospital fundraiser. Paulina admitted that she was not sure if she had time in her schedule to attend. “What about you and Johnny?” Paulina asked. “We’ll probably just send a check,” Chanel said. Chanel explained that even though Sami’s visit had helped Johnny’s spirit, Johnny had confessed that he did not think he could get past his anger toward his father.

Amy Choi knocked on the door, and Chanel invited her in. Amy apologized for having dropped by unannounced. “Chanel, I’m glad you’re here. I was hoping to speak with you and your husband,” Amy said. After Chanel confirmed that Johnny was out, Amy said she had wanted to talk to them about adopting her grandchild. Chanel was stunned. Amy explained that Sophia had encouraged her to reconsider her decision.

“I hadn’t heard that,” Chanel admitted. “[Tate and Sophia] made the case that with your father-in-law out of the picture as it were, he wouldn’t be a factor in the baby’s life,” Amy said. Paulina noted that even if EJ recovered, neither Johnny nor Chanel wanted him to be a part of their lives. “That is true, Mrs. Choi. Johnny and I want to make sure that our child grows up in a safe and supportive home where he or she is supported by love,” Chanel said. Amy smiled. Chanel promised that EJ would not be a part of the child’s life.

“In that case, I have no objections,” Amy said. Chanel gasped. “Wait, so is that a yes?” Chanel asked. Amy said yes. Chanel and Paulina laughed with joy at the news. “Chanel and Johnny are going to love that precious baby with all their hearts,” Paulina said. “Mama is right. Last summer, when I had that miscarriage, it was heartbreaking for all of us. But it made me and Johnny realize how much we wanted to start a family. And you’re making that possible, Mrs. Choi, by giving us another chance. And I am so profoundly grateful,” Chanel said.

As Chanel took out her phone to text Johnny the news, she saw a message from her husband. “Johnny says his father is out of the coma,” Chanel said. Amy’s smile disappeared. “But Mrs. Choi, I can guarantee you that this doesn’t change a thing,” Chanel stressed. “I believe you,” Amy said. When Amy asked Chanel about her living situation, Paulina noted that Johnny and Chanel were welcome to stay with her. Amy flourished her hand across the room, and she noted that the home would be too small once the baby was born.

“Can you afford a place on your own?” Amy asked. After Chanel rattled off her sources of income, Paulina chimed in to note that she would always offer support to her daughter if circumstances changed. “My grandbaby will not want for anything,” Paulina said. Chanel chuckled.

“And since we are putting all our cards out on the table, there’s something that I feel like I should be honest with you about, Mrs. Choi,” Chanel said. Concerned, Amy asked, “What?” Chanel confessed that she and Johnny were not as religious as they had implied. “I don’t lead a women's bible study group, and we don’t go to church every Sunday. But we are god fearing people, and we do intend to raise the child in the church,” Chanel said. Chanel apologized for the deception.

“I appreciate that you came clean now. And as long as you and your husband share my faith, and will bring the baby up believing in God–” Amy trailed off. After a moment of silence, Paulina asked Amy if she was still willing to let Johnny and Chanel adopt the baby.

At the penthouse, Tate and Sophia practised breathing exercises together. After one deep breath, the baby kicked. “Has that ever happened before?” Tate asked. “No, never. It just did it again!” Sophia said. Sophia grabbed Tate’s hand and put it on her belly to feel the kicks. “That’s amazing!” Tate said. Sophia’s phone beeped, and she read a text from her mother. Sophia’s smile disappeared. “She agreed to the adoption,” Sophia said.

In the Horton living room, Chad placed a call to the Salem Inn about their donation to the fundraiser. “Cat did already? Yeah, no, she’s terrific. She made planning this thing fun. Yeah, it’s a bummer we’ll be done tomorrow, I guess officially,” Chad said. Chad admitted that he and Cat had made a good team.

As Chad ended his call, Johnny stopped by to talk. “I took your advice. I went to go see my dad yesterday, and I just wanted to let you know that I’m really glad that I did,” Johnny said. “That’s good,” Chad said. Johnny gave Chad all the credit, and he thanked him.

“I thought it was important for you to talk to him. For your sake. So you didn’t have any regrets,” Chad said. “As it turned out, it was a two for one deal. When I showed up to the hospital, my mom was there,” Johnny said. Johnny explained that he had talked to Sami. “It was a difficult conversation, obviously. She was honest and forthcoming, which I really respect,” Johnny said. With a shrug, Johnny said that although he did not know why Sami had chosen to be with EJ, he felt like he had a better understanding of his mother as a person.

“She’s overcome so much. I’m really proud of her, and from now on, I just want to love and support her,” Johnny said. “That’s really good to hear, Johnny. And what about your dad? Did the conversation make you change the way you feel about him?” Chad asked. Johnny noted that his talk with Sami had given him insight into his parents’ relationship.

“It was a lot. But to her credit, my mom didn’t totally trash my dad, which she has every right to do. In fact, she even said that she genuinely loves him probably more than she’s ever loved any man,” Johnny said. Johnny shook his head. “Obviously their relationship was toxic, but she said that wasn’t all his fault,” Johnny explained. “Sounds like she’s come to terms with what happened between her and your dad. Have you?” Chad asked.

Before Johnny could respond, Belle called and told Chad that EJ was awake. When Chad told Johnny, he was surprised. Chad offered to give Johnny a ride to the hospital. Johnny thought about when he had taken Roman’s gun out of the lockbox in the pub. “I’m not going to the hospital. What’s the point? I have nothing to say to him,” Johnny said.

When Sophia and Tate joined Amy, Paulina, Chanel, and Belle at the Price-Carver house, Amy reviewed the adoption papers that Belle had brought. Once Amy approved the papers, Chanel cheerfully volunteered to sign the papers first. Belle passed the papers over to Tate. After Tate hesitated, Belle asked if everything was okay. Tate looked at Sophia, and he said, “Yeah. All good.” Tate signed the papers, and he handed them to Sophia.

In EJ’s hospital room, EJ coughed as he sipped on some water. Susan rushed to his side as EJ groaned in pain. “Mother, what happened to me?” EJ whispered. After a deep breath, Susan calmly told EJ that he had been shot. “Who was it that shot you?” Susan asked. A hoarse EJ admitted that he did not remember. Susan told EJ that Chad had found him in the DiMera living room, and that EJ had been shot in the lung.

“Is any of this helping you remember that night that you were shot?” Susan asked. Belle walked into the room, and EJ looked at her. “I remember what you did,” EJ said. As Belle’s mouth gaped open, a furious Susan yelled at Belle for having shot her son. EJ told Susan that she had misunderstood. “Belle didn’t shoot me in the chest. She stabbed me in the back,” EJ said. EJ told Susan that Belle had attempted to record EJ making an incriminating statement for the police. Susan glared at Belle.

“You wanted to send my boy to prison? You just said that you loved him,” Susan said. EJ’s eyes went wide, and Belle attempted to excuse herself from the room. “No! Please, don’t go,” EJ said. EJ asked Susan to leave him alone with Belle, and Susan reluctantly left to get tea.

Gabi was eating ice cream at the cafe in the square when JJ called her phone. “Sorry, pal. You’re still in the doghouse,” Gabi muttered as she rejected the call. As Cat walked by, Gabi called out to her, and she asked Cat about her mom. “She’s still recovering from the Clyde Weston brainwashing thing, but she’s making progress,” Cat said. Cat explained that her brother Aaron was staying with their mom while she continued to recover.

“And how are you?” Gabi asked. “Busy. I’m working on the hospital fundraiser with Chad,” Cat said. Gabi invited Cat to join her. “So, what’s the deal with you two?” Gabi asked. Cat nervously noted that she and Chad were not an item. “I don’t know, when I saw you two together [in Vancouver] there was definitely some chemistry,” Gabi said.

“I think you have a wild imagination,” Cat stammered. Cat explained that she had been working with Chad on the hospital fundraiser, and that they had been getting along. “We’re friends, I mean, that’s all we’re ever going to be,” Cat said. With a smirk, Gabi asked Cat if she was sure that there had not been any sparks between them while they had worked on the fundraiser. Cat thought about when she and Chad had watched baseball together.

“No sparks. Not that I can think of,” Cat said. Cat added that she did not know if she would continue to spend time with Chad after the fundraiser. Anxious to change the subject, Cat asked Gabi if she and JJ were going to attend the event. “I’ll be there But not with JJ,” Gabi said. Gabi explained that JJ had accused her of murder, and they were currently not speaking. Gabi admitted that she hated EJ, but that she was not the only person that felt that way.

“He is a ruthless, heartless creep who gets off on destroying other people’s lives,” Gabi grumbled. Gabi argued that EJ had deserved to be shot. Susan was walking by, and she ordered Gabi to retract her statement. “Your EJ’s mother?” Cat said. “I am. And you are?” Susan asked. Gabi introduced Cat to Susan. Cat explained that she had briefly lived at the mansion, and that Susan was not what she expected.

“Thank you, sweetheart. People say that I look like his sister more than his mama,” Susan said. Susan asked if Cat and Gabi were friends. Cat said yes. “Take my advice. You stay far away from this forked-tongued viper. She is mean, mean, mean,” Susan said. Gabi scoffed, and Susan pointed her finger in Gabi’s face. Gabi grabbed Susan by the wrist and growled, “Get your damn finger out of my face!” When Gabi let go, Susan gasped.

“You were at my son’s house the night he was shot,” Susan yelled. “I think you’re confused,” Gabi said. Unfazed, Susan insisted that Gabi had been at the mansion. “How could you know that?” Cat asked. Susan said that she could sense it. Gabi thought about how she had stared at EJ through the glass door to the patio on the night he had been shot. “Susan, you’re making no sense, as usual,” Gabi said. Susan insisted.

“The question is, were you [the person that shot EJ]?” Susan asked. Gabi stressed that Susan’s psychic abilities had steered her wrong. “I wasn’t anywhere near that house,” Gabi said. With a grin, Susan told Gabi that EJ was awake. “Since when?” Gabi asked. “He’s gonna point his finger right at you,” Susan said. Susan started to walk away, but then she stopped and told Cat that her mom had loved the chocolates Cat had sent her. “I did send a box of chocolates to my mother,” Cat told Gabi after Susan left.

When Johnny returned home, Chanel rushed into his arms. “What’s going on?” Johnny asked. “Mrs. Choi changed her mind. We can adopt Sophia’s baby,” Chanel said. Johnny grinned. Chanel explained that everyone had signed the papers except Johnny. “But this is really happening! Oh, my god You are gonna be a daddy!!” Chanel yelled.

In EJ’s hospital room, EJ asked Belle, “Is it true? Do you love me?” Belle suggested that they delay the conversation until EJ was stronger. “I think you’re avoiding the question. Did you or did you not say you love me?” EJ asked. Chad rushed into the room and hugged his brother. “You okay?” Chad asked. Belle said goodnight, and she wished EJ a quick recovery. After Belle left, EJ said, “I’m told I have you to thank.” Chad said he had found EJ soon after the shooting.

“And what brought you by the house?” EJ asked. “Well, I mean, the voicemail you left me. You were pissed off about the article that I printed in the Spectator. I’m so sorry, EJ,” Chad said. EJ told Chad to forget it. Chad admitted that he felt guilty for having printed an article that might have inflamed the public. “I’m going to do everything in my power to find out who did this to you,” Chad promised. Chad asked EJ if he remembered the shooting.

“I do know that Belle was there that day, but she definitely left,” EJ said. After a moment, EJ said he remembered that Chanel had also stopped by the house to yell at him for having ruined her chances at adopting Tate’s baby. “So you think she shot you as payback?” Chad asked. “She was pretty irate. But no. Now that it’s coming together, she said her piece and left,” EJ said. Chad asked EJ if he could remember any other visitors. After a moment, EJ noted that Kristen had returned home.

“Police questioned her after they found a gun in her purse,” Chad said. Chad confirmed that the gun had not matched the bullet, and that the police had no other leads. “Salem PD, nothing if not inept,” EJ muttered. Chad advised EJ to give himself time to recover and remember what had happened. “Hopefully, all your memories will come back,” Chad said. Chad reiterated his promise to find the culprit.

When Chad exited EJ’s room, he ran into Cat at the coffee cart. “I heard your brother woke up. I’m so happy for you,” Cat said. Chad thanked Cat for having supported him on the night of the shooting. “How is he?” Cat asked. “Good. He doesn’t remember who shot him, which makes me a little nervous,” Chad said. Chad told Cat that he was worried the culprit would make another attempt.

Susan returned to EJ’s room with a cup of hot tea. “You feeling better?” Susan asked. EJ admitted that he had started to remember things. Susan asked about Belle, and EJ said that Chad had interrupted the conversation. “[Chad] said the police don’t have any leads,” EJ said. “Forget the police, honey. I think I know who shot you,” Susan said.

In the square, Gabi thought about the night of the shooting and how she had waited in the garden with a gun. “There’s no way that Susan could have possibly known what I did that night,” Gabi said.
