As Julie ordered flowers for John's memorial, Jack and Jennifer appeared and surprised their cousin. Julie and Jennifer embraced, but sadness was written all over their faces. "I feel like we were just here for Doug's funeral, and now we have to lay another incredible man to rest," Jennifer said.

"At least there's some good news to celebrate this time," Jack said, referring to Bo's great awakening. "It wouldn't have happened without John." Jack left for the Spectator office, so Julie and Jennifer had time to catch up. Julie told Jennifer that grief counseling with Marlena had been going well.

"But then, my anniversary with Doug rolled around. And at the same time, we thought that Bo was dying. And then we lost John. And it all happened at once, and I began to feel this grief washing over me all over again," Julie explained. "But you and Jack coming through the front door, I already feel my heart beginning to heal."

The subject turned to Doug III. Jennifer was furious at him for stealing that necklace and hurting Julie. "Doug was no angel, but that man never once lied to me, and his grandson did," Julie angrily said.

Before Julie had to go run an errand, she told Jennifer that Chad would be there soon. "That is if he survives his skydiving date with Cat Greene," Julie said. Jennifer was shocked to hear about Chad's plans. When Jack returned, Jennifer told him how she felt. "You are not going to believe what Julie just told me," she fumed.

Chad startled Leo as he finished up John's obituary for The Spectator. Leo was in awe of all John did in his life. Chad had decided to run it on the front page, calling John a hero in the headline. "No one is more deserving of a beautiful tribute than John," Chad said.

Leo lamented that the copy editor thought the obit was too long, but Leo didn't know where to cut because so many things about John's life were so important. "I just want to do him justice," Leo said. Chad agreed to get the editor to give Leo more space.

"I'll tell her before I take off," Chad said. Leo realized he was talking about his skydiving dare with Cat. "Don't remind me," Chad added. He was terrified about the idea of jumping out of an airplane. Leo advised Chad to call the whole thing off if EJ had already paid the money. He and Cat were just friends anyway.

Chad said since they were friends, he couldn't blow her off. He also didn't want to waste EJ's money. Leo reminded Chad that Cat had feelings for him and may not have gotten past them. "You don't want to string her along if those feelings are unrequited," he said.

Tate opened the front door to Marlena's apartment and found Cat standing there with more baked goods. Tate was cold to Cat, telling her he knew who she was since he was Aaron's best friend. Cat tried making excuses for her past behavior, but Tate told her it was all in the past.

When Cat spotted the photo of Sami on the mantle, Cat mentioned that she looked very familiar. Tate told her that it was his Aunt Sami. Cat still couldn't figure out where she might have known her from. When she saw a framed photo of John, she recalled what John had done for her mother all those years ago. "I guess I owe John Black credit for my very existence," she said.

Cat and Chad later met up in the square and admitted that he was a little nervous about the dive. Cat said she'd understand if he wanted to back out. Chad insisted he wanted to do the dive despite his fears.

Back at the Spectator office, Jack walked in on Leo telling his editor that he would not sacrifice the integrity of his work. "So, Lady Whistleblower is now all about integrity," Jack remarked. Leo told Jack that he was a real journalist now. Leo was surprised when Jack complimented him on his work.

"Your mother must be proud," Jack said, referring to Diane Colville, the woman Jack bought the Spectator from in the 1980s. Leo found that comment to be odd. "Obviously, you don't know my mother like you used to," Leo said. Jack brought up the fact that Diana had allowed Leo to believe that John was his father.

Jack noted that Gwen had told him that Leo's biological father was abusive. "Mine was too, so I understand your desire to change your history," Jack said. "We are not defined by our parents. It's the courage and desire to change. That's what makes the difference."

Gabi was concerned when she saw that Arianna had barely touched her breakfast. She was upset about her Grandpa John. She said that her father was still in shock when she saw him, and that Will was not happy that Ari was living under the same roof as Leo Stark.

Gabi said she didn't like it either, but this was what Javi wanted. Ari was disturbed by Leo trying to give her Celine Dion CDs when she had never owned a CD player. Gabi then turned the topic to Ari sneaking out of the house. Ari accused Gabi of being a control freak. As they were arguing, Rafe walked in, fresh off his FBI training in DC.

Ari ran into Rafe's arms for a sweet reunion. Rafe explained that he was back sooner than expected so he could attend John's funeral. Ari quickly ran out to get a coffee, upsetting Gabi. Rafe asked Gabi what was wrong, so she told him about Ari sneaking out of the house in the middle of the night. "Doesn't a parent have the right to know where their child spends the night?" she asked.

Rafe didn't have any good advice, but Gabi had to admit that Ari wasn't a little girl anymore. "I'm starting to fear that I don't know her at all," Gabi lamented. However, she was happy to learn that Rafe was going to work for Salem's FBI office. Rafe also wanted to know where the memory stick went that has evidence about EJ's shooting. Gabi was sure that Leo had swiped it.

Rafe pointed out that Leo claimed he didn't have it. "I got a hunch that Leo is telling the truth this time," Rafe said. Gabi didn't buy it.

At the Brady Pub, Doug III sat on the phone trying to negotiate a new payment plan with the thugs he owed money to. When the person on the other end hung up, Holly walked in and sat down at Doug's table. She was ready to give him another tutoring session for his GED exam.

Doug quickly walked behind the bar and told Holly he was on the clock. Ari then arrived and approached Doug at the bar. However, Holly walked up behind Holly so the two childhood friends could have a reunion. Ari noted she was happy she got back to town in time to see John one last time. Holly was shocked, as she hadn't known John had died.

Holly realized she needed to go see Tate and ran out. Doug then questioned Holly about her age since she said she knew Holly from school, and Holly was just graduating from high school. Doug was relieved to hear that Ari was 18, so at least he didn't sleep with someone under age. Ari took Doug's hand and told him she hoped they could see each other again. Meanwhile, someone took photos of them through the window. The man also followed Ari when she left.

Later, Doug dropped into the Spectator office to talk to Leo. "My entire life, Leo, is one huge mess," Doug said, looking for advice. Holly has friend-zoned him, he hooked up with a girl who is friends with Holly, and his loan shark still wants cash.

Holly ended up at Marlena's apartment and embraced Tate to offer him comfort and support. The two caught up, with Holly telling Tate that she and Doug III were just friends and Tate admitting he screwed Doug over for ratting him out to Julie about the necklace. "I just want you to know that I am really sorry for that and I've really missed you," Tate said.

Holly told Tate that she really missed him, too. The moment was interrupted by a text from Sophia. She was on her way over so they could tour the labor and delivery unit at the hospital. Holly agreed to continue the conversation another time.
