EJ asked Paulina to help him reconcile with Johnny. Paulina refused. Paulina informed EJ that Abe had decided to vote for Xander’s proposal.

Xander beat Philip bloody. Before Xander walked away, Philip told him that Sarah had known about his fraud. When Philip did not wake up to answer questions, Xander left. Kate found Philip unconscious. Kate told Jada that she believed Xander had beaten up Philip. JJ asked Gabi and Javi if they had seen any issues between Xander and Philip at work, but they said no. Chad asked EJ if he had beat up Philip, but EJ swore he had not. Chad believed him.

Alex asked Kate to review Stephanie’s manuscript, and in exchange, he wanted her to run the publishing division. Kate agreed. Stephanie decided that she did not want to publish her novel. Alex did not tell her that he had already given the manuscript to Kate.

Julie was horrified to see Doug III working at the pub. Julie accused Doug of having taken advantage of Roman. Furious, Julie vowed not to return to the pub until Doug no longer worked there. Doug informed Julie that he planned to save up enough money to buy back her necklace to return to her and to leave town. Julie asked Doug to forget the necklace and leave Salem.

Doug’s bookie continued to hound him for the interest on his loan. Holly helped Doug prep for the GED exam, but he was disinterested in all subjects except poetry. A man followed Holly and photographed her after she left Doug.

Ari arrived in town, and Gabi was furious that Javi had failed to pick her up at the airport. Gabi fired Javi. Javi quit, then stormed out of the house. After Ari pointed out that she had texted Gabi about the flight change, Gabi agreed to apologize to Javi. Javi met up with Leo at the pub, and he told him about Texas. Javi explained that his boss had been homophobic and had harassed him at work until he had quit.

Ari announced that she did not want to attend her graduation. Gabi was disappointed, but also excited that Ari had decided to stay for the summer. Ari snuck out of the house that night to go to the Small Bar. When Ari met Doug at the bar, she went home with him to celebrate her birthday. Ari saw that her mom had called repeatedly, and she ignored it.

When Sarah told Maggie about Philip’s beating, Maggie told her about Xander’s bruised knuckles. Sarah confronted Xander about Philip. Xander countered with a question about Sarah’s lying. Sarah claimed responsibility for keeping Philip’s secret. Sarah told Xander that the fact that he had almost murdered Philip was proof that she had been right to lie to Xander about Philip’s fraud. Xander told Sarah he no longer trusted her. Sarah ordered Xander to move out. Xander vowed not to give up on Victoria, but he packed and left.

Paulina told Chanel and Johnny that she and Abe had moved into a new home so that they could give their old place to Johnny and Chanel. After painting some pictures at the wine and painting fundraiser for the hospital, Johnny and Chanel decorate their new home.

Shawn called Kevin and asked him to meet up. Shawn offered to help return the Versavix, but Kevin had already passed the drugs on to his roommate. Steve promised to get the drug back to Jeffrey’s lab and protect Kevin. When Shawn ran into Belle, he asked her if she knew Kevin or his roommate. Belle tracked down contact info for the roommate, and she passed it along to Shawn. Belle informed Shawn that Hope had arrested Asher when he was a juvenile. Shawn called his mother to ask her about Asher’s arrest. Hope remembered Asher because he had gone to school with Zack. Shawn told Hope about the situation with the Versavix.

Paul returned to the penthouse without John. Paul explained that John had taken a side trip to help a friend. Too nervous to wait at home, Marlena joined Kayla at the hospital to wait for news about the raid at the warehouse.

Bo received last rites as Steve and Shawn tracked down the Versavix to a meth lab. John and Hope met up with Steve at the warehouse to help them break into it. Once inside, a junkie attacked Jeffrey, and John intervened. When a fire broke out, Hope rescued Jeffrey, but she was unable to get back inside to save John. John grabbed a vial of Versavix for Bo, and he shielded the rest of the vials with his body until the fire was extinguished.

Though John survived, the damage to his body was extensive. With Marlena at John’s side in the hospital, he whispered that he loved her, and he passed away. Hope got the vial of Versavix to Bo, and she prayed with Ciara and Shawn as they waited to see if Bo would survive.
