What happened on Days of our Lives

As Leo and Javi walked through the square with Tesoro, Amy approached. Amy asked to spend a moment with her grandson. When Amy noted that Tesoro looked happy, a defensive Leo said, “He is happy.” “I wish I could say the same for his mother,” Amy said. Amy confirmed that Sophia was getting treatment, but she was still catatonic. Javi and Leo said they were praying for Sophia’s recovery.
“I will always be grateful for how you took care of her when she collapsed at the pub,” Amy told Javi. Amy thanked Javi and Leo for all they had done for Tesoro as well. “I’ve seen how you are with him. Since the beginning, since she left the baby at the firehouse. I know that you’ve always done your best, and I thank you for that,” Amy said. Javi thanked Amy.
“I may not approve of your lifestyle,” said. “We don’t need you to,” Leo countered. With a nod, Amy continued, “But I thank the good Lord that Sophia’s baby had your family to care for him when my family could not.” Amy noted that she had been drawn to Tesoro from the moment she had first seen him. Amy asked if she could hold her grandson, and Javi said yes.
After a few minutes, Amy admitted that it was hard to let go of Tesoro. Amy refused to let Johnny and Chanel raise baby Tesoro. “Everything that is wrong in Sophia’s life begins with Johnny DiMera promising he would adopt her baby and then backing out,” Amy grumbled. Javi attempted to defend Johnny, but Amy complained that Johnny had prevented her from finding a good Christian family for the baby.
“I thought Christians believed in forgiveness,” Leo said. Amy said she hoped that she could forgive Johnny and Chanel one day, but that she would never believe that they were fit to parent Tesoro. “I don’t believe it’s God’s will for them to raise this child, and I know it’s not Sophia’s,” Amy said.
At the pub, Stephanie and Chanel talked about the book signing party for “Write Out.” “I love that [Anastasia] is writing a mystery novel next,” Chanel said. Chanel said she considered herself part of the “Sand Castle” fan community of Anastasia Sands. After a moment, Stephanie confessed that Anastasia planned to reveal her identity at the book launch party and that Leo had the exclusive story. Excited, Chanel asked if Anastasia would be there. “I sure will,” Stephanie said. Chanel was thrilled.
“Why reveal your big secret now?” Chanel asked. Stephanie explained that her controlling ex had tipped off her identity to the press. “But no man will ever control me like that again,” Stephanie said. “Respect. Feeling powerless, it’s just the worst,” Chanel said.
Curious, Stephanie asked Chanel why she felt powerless. Chanel noted that Sophia’s actions could cost her and Johnny a chance at adopting Tesoro. Stephanie asked Chanel if there was anything they could do to counteract Sophia’s actions. Chanel confirmed that Rafe had written to Child Protective Services on her and Johnny’s behalf, and Paulina had continued to champion them as adoptive parents. “But none of that may matter if Sophia doesn’t set the record straight,” Chanel said.
At Titan, Philip, Alex, and Johnny talked about the book launch for “Write Out.” Johnny confirmed that advance copies had gone out to the top vloggers and that there was an extensive ad campaign. Alex announced that Anastasia Sands would reveal her identity at the book launch.
“So Stephanie is finally going to play ball. Nice work. How did you pull that off?” Philip asked. Confused, Johnny asked why Stephanie would need to be convinced to publicize the book. Philip confirmed that Stephanie was Anastasia. “Chanel is going to flip out,” Johnny said. Alex swore Johnny to secrecy until the announcement.
“How did you know that Stephanie was Anastasia?” Alex asked. “I’ve known all along,” Philip said. Philip lied and said he had recognized the writing style. Alex raised an eyebrow. Philip told Johnny he would need a revised video. “That is if you’re still working at Titan,” Philip said. Johnny asked if he was fired.
Alex noted that they understood if Johnny wanted to stay with DiMera. “Especially since we can’t guarantee Titan will even remain solvent,” Philip added. Johnny said he had faith in the leadership of the company. “I’m happy for my Uncle Tony. I’m happy for my cousin. That doesn’t mean I want to work for them,” Johnny said. Johnny noted that he was loyal to Titan. Alex and Philip said they would love to have Johnny continue at Titan.
After Johnny left, Alex caught up with him outside the pub. “I’m really sorry about the adoption,” Alex said. Alex noted that Johnny and Chanel deserved to be parents. “I wish Chanel and I had as much faith as you do,” Johnny said. Johnny and Alex joined Stephanie and Chanel inside, and they toasted to Anastasia Sands.
After Johnny and Chanel left, Stephanie admitted she was relieved that Chanel and Johnny knew the truth about Anastasia. Alex confirmed that Philip had told Johnny the truth. Alex noted that it was awkward to know that Stephanie had written about her sex life with Philip, but that he did not want to talk about it.
As Johnny and Chanel walked through the square, they ran into Javi, Leo, and Tesoro. Leo and Javi warned Johnny and Chanel that Amy wanted to prevent their adoption. “We just wanted you to be prepared,” Javi said. Johnny thanked Javi and Leo for the heads up. After Javi and Leo left with Tesoro, Chanel lamented that Amy would destroy any chance they had to adopt Tesoro.
In the Kiriakis living room, Sarah asked Xander to look her in the eyes and tell her that he had not been the one that had attacked Philip. Reluctantly, Xander said, “It was me. I attacked Philip.” Disgusted, Sarah berated herself for having believed that Xander could change. “I have changed,” Xander pleaded. “You’ll never change, Xander. You will always be the amoral monster who just blows up and hurts anyone at hand,” Sarah argued. Xander disagreed.
Sarah recounted the numerous things Xander had done including shooting Marlena, kidnapping Bonnie and Susan, and Xander’s intention to hurt Brady. “And then you lie about it!” Sarah yelled. Sarah noted that Xander had let her beat herself up for having rightly assumed that Xander had attacked Philip.
“I swear on my soul–” Xander started. “Your soul? Are you kidding me? Screw you ever making me think that you ever had a soul,” Sarah said. Xander asked to explain, but Sarah did not want to hear it. Xander said he had wanted to tell Sarah the truth, but he had been afraid to lose her and his daughter. “Then you shouldn’t have attacked Philip,” Sarah said. “I know that! It was a horrible mistake. I’ll regret it for the rest of my life. I lost it in the moment,” Xander said. Sarah noted that Xander had lost his family too.
“This time Xander, we are really, truly done,” Sarah said. As Xander started to talk about how he had lost his temper with Philip, Sarah noted that she was concerned how Xander would react if she or Victoria ever made Xander that angry. “I would never hurt either of you. You have to believe that,” Xander said. “I can’t believe anything that you say,” Sarah said. Xander reminded Sarah that he had started therapy, and she had seen how he had changed.
“I’m the one who changed. Because I will never put my faith in a faithless person again,” Sarah said. Sarah took off her wedding ring, and she ordered Xander to leave. Xander left without a word. When Maggie returned to the living room, Sarah was sitting in front of the fire, crying. Sarah confirmed that Xander had admitted he had beaten Philip. “He’s pure evil, Mom,” Sarah said. “I don’t love him any more. And I’ll never love him again. He crossed a line. There’s no going back from that,” Sarah said.
Sarah asked Maggie how she had known that Xander had been Philip’s attacker. “I didn’t at first, but I wanted to make sure that there were no more lies that had to come out,” Maggie said. Maggie noted that when she had questioned Xander, he had gotten the same look on his face that Victor used to get. “And I knew in my soul, that he was lying,” Maggie said. Sarah said she no longer believed there was any good in Xander. “He doesn’t deserve my love. My belief in him. Or my daughter,” Sarah said. Sarah called Justin, and she asked him to file for her divorce.
At the Salem Inn, Xander knocked on Philip's door. Xander explained what had happened with Sarah. A tearful Xander said, “I’ve lost everything, mate. Everything that matters.” Xander told Philip that he knew it was over because he had only seen hate in Sarah’s eyes. “Hate that I caused,” Xander said. “I’m sorry to hear that,” Philip said. With a shake of his head, Xander noted that Philip had every right to celebrate.
“I wouldn’t do that. We’ve come too far,” Philip said. With his voice shaking, Xander said, “How is it that my only friend that I have left in the whole world is the brother I almost killed?” Philip noted that if he could forgive Xander, so could Sarah. Xander stressed that Sarah would never forgive him, because she held him to a different standard than Philip. “But that’s because I’m not in love with you,” Philip said. “Well, neither is she,” Xander said.
When Xander returned home, he started to throw a vase, but he stopped himself. Xander breathed deeply instead. After a moment, Xander broke down in tears.
