What happened on Days of our Lives

Chad and Cat ran into one another in the town square. Cat asked Chad why he had not gone home as planned. Chad explained that he had been called into work to supervise some repairs, but he was on his way home. “And are you still going to tell your family about us?” Cat asked. “No going back now,” Chad said with a grin.
Chad said that he believed things would be fine. “[The kids] adore you, and once the rest of the family sees that, they’ll come around,” Chad said. Cat was unsure. Chad stressed that everyone deserved to know the truth because he did not want to keep secrets from the people they loved. Cat and Chad kissed.
As Chad walked away, Paulina asked Cat where she could find EJ. “He’s working from home today, but he should be reachable,” Cat said. Paulina complained that EJ would not take her calls, and he had ignored her demands to meet. Cat asked about the urgent issue. Paulina explained that the construction at the hospital had caused the blackout, and she needed EJ to take responsibility for the matter. After Paulina walked away, Cat called Rafe and asked to meet later that day.
Julie picked up Thomas from school after he claimed to be ill. “No fever,” Julie confirmed. Thomas said he wanted to sleep, and he went upstairs. When Chad returned home, Julie was reading Leo’s article about the cause of the blackout. “I certainly hope this electrical problem with the free clinic is not going to delay the opening next month. You know, a lot of family is coming in from out of town to honor Grandpa’s legacy,” Julie said. Chad said he believed EJ would get it done. Chad asked about the kids. Julie said the kids had been great, but Thomas was homesick.
“Thank you for taking such good care of him and watching him. I appreciate it,” Chad said. Julie asked about Chad’s night with Cat and why he had been there when the blackout had started. Chad explained that as EJ’s assistant, Cat had been coordinating the gala for the new clinic. Chad said that EJ had wanted Chad to work with Cat on the best way to publicize the event. Suspicious, Julie asked Chad if he had spent all night in the dark with Cat talking about Tom Horton.
“Well, I was hoping to be able to have a conversation with you about something kind of important,” Chad said. Jeremy walked into the house and interrupted the conversation. Julie eagerly greeted Jeremy.
Jeremy offered his condolences about Doug and Abigail. “What brings you back to town?” Chad asked. Jeremy said he had been offered a job as a substitute teacher for fifth grade.
“You’re going to be your cousin’s teacher!” Julie said. Julie invited Jeremy to join them for lunch later. As Jeremy and Julie left the house to run errands, Thomas came downstairs. Thomas was cold to his father, and Chad encouraged Thomas to talk to him about what was bothering him. “You told me Cat was just your friend. Rachel says she’s your girlfriend,” Thomas said. The boy accused his father of lying to him.
In Alex and Stephanie’s apartment, they talked about how EJ DiMera had discovered her secret. Stephanie admitted she was concerned that EJ would use the information against her. Alex suggested that Stephanie reveal her author identity to neutralize EJ.
“I know you think your PR clients wouldn’t take you seriously if they know you’re a romance novelist, and a steamy one at that, but I honestly think it will strengthen your brand,” Alex advised. Alex told Stephanie that she would be able to positively spin the fallout from the announcement. Cautiously, Stephanie said she wanted to wait. Stephanie explained that her other concern was her ex.
“Do you honestly think this guy is going to find your book and read it?” Alex asked. Alex noted that at worst, the ex would get a chuckle about it if he realized it was about him. Stephanie told Alex that she had heard that he was returning to Salem.
“Who is this guy?” Alex asked. “His name is Jeremy. Jeremy Horton,” Stephanie said. Alex said he was surprised that Stephanie had dated a Horton. “It’s not something that I want to relive,” Stephanie said curtly. Alex asked why. Stephanie explained that Jeremy had run a smuggling operation and had gotten her and her friends in trouble. “I thought all Hortons were saints,” Alex said. Stephanie noted that Jeremy was an exception. Worried, Alex encouraged Stephanie to open up to him about Jeremy.
“He didn’t hit me, but he was abusive in other ways,” Stephanie said. Stephanie refused to give details, but she did admit that Jeremy had behaved badly. “I was ashamed that I ended up in that situation. And in retrospect, even more ashamed that I stayed with him,” Stephanie said. “You’ve got nothing to be ashamed of,” Alex said. Alex urged Stephanie to accept that none of it was her fault. Stephanie agreed, but she admitted that she still felt guilty for having overlooked all the red flags about Jeremy.
“It wasn’t my fault. Thank you for reminding me,” Stephanie said. Stephanie explained that she had heard that Jeremy had “cleaned up his act,” but she had still been thrown by the news that he was returning to Salem. “Let’s just hope that this Jeremy dude knows well enough to steer clear of you. And of me,” Alex said.
Stephanie asked Alex not to lash out at Jeremy because she had moved on, and Alex agreed. After Alex left to meet with his family about Tony, Stephanie worked on her laptop. There was a knock at the front door. It was Jeremy with a floral bouquet.
In the DiMera living room, Gwen berated EJ for having left her locked up in the clinic overnight. EJ mocked Gwen for having been scared by the experience. Gwen explained that Leo had heard her yelling, and he had freed her from the locked room. EJ asked how Leo had found her, and Gwen said Leo had been following up on a lead about the cause of the blackout.
“He was investigating the lab?” EJ yelled. “Relax! I threw him off the scent,” Gwen said. Gwen explained that she had told Leo that the room she was in had a lock on it because it was intended to hold supplies. “And he wasn’t curious why you were in there?” EJ asked. Gwen said she told Leo that she had been on a tour of the facilities when EJ had been called away before the blackout. Gwen said she was sure that Leo believed her.
“He better remain clueless. It is imperative that no one finds out about our behind-the-scenes operations at the Dr. Tom Horton Free Clinic,” EJ said. EJ asked how Leo had freed her, and Gwen told EJ that Leo had knocked a hole in the wall with a crowbar. “Why would you let him do that?” EJ asked. Gwen yelled at EJ for having left her locked in a small room overnight. EJ explained that he had also been detained because he had been stuck in an elevator.
“Were you alone?” Gwen asked. “No. I was with Belle Black,” EJ said. With a smirk, Gwen asked for details. EJ explained that there was nothing to tell. Gwen suggested that EJ had used the opportunity to get back on Belle’s good side. Before EJ could respond, Paulina marched into the living room. “I am not in the mood for your games this morning!” Paulina shouted. Paulina demanded to know why EJ had not answered any of her calls. Gwen walked out.
“I’m only just returning home after being stuck in an elevator,” EJ said. “That was hours ago! I’ve left you countless messages,” Paulina said. Paulina complained about the costs of the blackout for the city due to the power surge emanating from the construction site of the free clinic. EJ refused to pay for damages. Paulina warned EJ to drop the attitude, or she would talk to the city attorney.
“It was Salem’s aging power grid that caused that transformer to blow. And that is what caused the blackout,” EJ argued. Paulina disagreed. EJ warned Paulina that if she filed a lawsuit, he would countersue the city for gross negligence. Paulina agreed to wait for a full report on the situation before she did anything. As Paulina started to leave, EJ asked about Chanel and Johnny. Paulina refused to tell EJ anything about them because he had been behind the deepfake video of Chanel presented at Johnny’s trial. “That young man is well rid of you. Hopefully for good this time,” Paulina said.
Gwen and Cat met up at the Bistro to have lunch together, and they chatted about the blackout. Gwen explained that she had been trapped in the clinic overnight. “What were you doing there?” Cat asked. Gwen said that EJ had given her a tour in an effort to secure a donation, and she had been trapped in a room behind a security door. “You must have been terrified,” Cat said. With a shrug, Gwen said she got a story out of the experience. Gwen asked about Cat’s night. Cat admitted that she had spent the blackout at home with Chad.
“He’s quite good at holding grudges,” Gwen said. “I found him to be rather forgiving, actually,” Cat said. Gwen was surprised, and she asked Cat if she spent a lot of time with Chad. Cat explained that Chad had been at her home to discuss the gala for the clinic and Jennifer’s article. “Jen and I are not really on speaking terms,” Gwen noted. “If it makes you feel any better, I am more than willing to bet she hates me a lot more than she hates you,” Cat said. Gwen laughed. Gwen advised Cat not to think about other people.
