What happened on Days of our Lives

At the pub, Brady and Chad talked about Rachel and Thomas. With a chuckle, Brady made a joke about how it was scandalous for them to be seen together during their families’ lawsuit. “I know our families are technically at war, but I’m staying out of it this time,” Chad said. “No regrets pulling the ripcord and walking away from a big family legacy?” Brady asked. Chad shook his head no. “None at all,” Chad said.
After Chad left the pub, he ran into Cat outside. Cat explained that she had taken a personal day off work for Mark’s parole hearing. “The parole board has not made their decision yet,” Cat said. Cat told Chad that Mark had received a lot of letters of support for his release. When Chad said he hoped those countered the ones from Jack and Jennifer, Cat grimaced.
“I have to admit, their statements were pretty hard to sit through, even though I went in expecting it. I mean, I obviously don’t blame Jack and Jennifer for being harsh, considering everything that Mark and I both put them through,” Cat said. Cat thanked Chad for opting not to submit a statement. “I do not take lightly what Mark and I both put your family through,” Cat said. Chad said he understood.
When Chad and Cat arrived at Cat’s apartment, Chad said he no longer wanted to sneak around. Chad told Cat that Thomas had asked him if he liked Cat. “What did you end up telling Thomas?” Cat asked. “That we were friends and that we enjoyed spending time together,” Chad said. Chad noted that he did not want to lie to his kids.
“But telling the world about us could also be really problematic,” Cat said. “So where do we go from here then?” Chad asked. Cat told Chad she would take his lead because she wanted to protect his family. Mark called from prison and told Cat that his parole had been approved. “Mark’s coming home,” Cat said. “I’m so happy for you,” Chad said.
Stephanie was packing in preparation for her move across the hall to Alex’s place. “You haven’t heard a word I’ve said in ten minutes, have you?” Stephanie said. Alex explained that he was focused on a news article about Tony’s lawsuit. Stephanie encouraged Alex to talk to Xander and Philip. Alex apologized for having taken out his anger on her, but she said she understood that he was under a lot of stress. “It’s not an excuse, baby. I was a jerk,” Alex said. “I’m over it,” Stephanie said. Alex was anxious to right things with Xander, so Stephanie ordered him to go to Titan.
In the DiMera mansion, EJ congratulated Tony on his lawsuit. “I almost feel sorry for them, except they brought this upon themselves, didn’t they?” EJ said. “They actually think that their attack on DiMera would go unanswered. I mean, they may have taken the first battle, but I promise you, we will win the war,” Tony said.
After EJ left for work, Maggie arrived. “I’m surprised to see you,” Tony said. “Well, after what you pulled, you’re gonna wish to hell that you didn’t,” Maggie said. Maggie argued that, as she was a part-owner of Titan, the lawsuit was an attack on her as well. “I figured, as two old friends, perhaps you’d do me the courtesy to explain your demands directly to my face,” Maggie said. Tony told Maggie that he wanted both companies.
“That’s not fair,” Maggie said. “Well, was it fair when Philip and Xander swooped in and stole my family’s company?” Tony asked. Maggie argued that was not the same thing. Tony mentioned Philip’s fraud. “I know all about it,” Maggie confirmed. Maggie said she did not agree with Philip’s actions, but she knew that Victor would have wanted Xander and Philip to run Titan together.
“Tony, you are so much better than this. What you’re doing is so petty and spiteful,” Maggie said. Tony said he was honoring his father’s memory. “Then I owe it to my family, and to Victor’s memory to do whatever I can to stop you,” Maggie countered. Tony asked Maggie to convince her stepsons to settle the matter privately. Maggie scoffed, and she reminded Tony that he had publicly accused the CEO’s of fraud. “I kept the details to myself,” Tony said. “So you could blackmail them,” Maggie countered.
When Tony argued that Philip could go to prison, Maggie asked, “You would do that to him?” “Only if he forces me to,” Tony argued. Tony pleaded with Maggie to convince Xander and Philip to make the deal and prevent a war.
When EJ arrived at work, he took a call in his office about the new construction. “I believe it’s time to shift things into high gear,” EJ said. EJ summoned Stephanie to his office. EJ confirmed that construction on the free clinic was ahead of schedule. EJ also agreed to take Stephanie’s suggestion and name the clinic after Tom Horton.
Stephanie admitted she had already drawn up a draft press release. Stephanie rattled off the list of people she would need to contact for the press conference. “Just let me know what you need,” EJ said. With a smirk, Stephanie admitted that she was pleasantly surprised by EJ’s efforts so far.
“The Tom Horton Free Clinic is going to improve a lot of lives, and I think it could change the way that people look at the DiMera family,” Stephanie said. When EJ asked about how to publicize the opening, Stephanie suggested a black-tie gala. “Let’s do it,” EJ said.
In the Titan-DiMera CEO office, Philip told Xander that the lawyers had agreed that they would lose the case if it went to trial. Xander confirmed that he had failed to dig up any dirt on Tony because Tony had been clean for the last few years. “If we want to save Titan, we have no choice but to concede to Tony’s demands and return all DiMera assets,” Xander said.
“But you know, even that isn’t enough for him. He wants it all. What the hell are we going to do?” Philip asked. Xander noted that they only had one day to decide. Alex returned, and he demanded to help them figure out how to beat Tony. “Well, you’ve done a real bang-up job so far,” Xander muttered. Philip argued that he was to blame, not Alex. “And we do not need to be attacking each other right now,” Philip added.
Alex called in Brady, and when he arrived, Brady said he wanted to help save his grandfather, father, and mother’s legacy. Brady explained that Alex had told him about the forged letter. Xander explained that Tony had confirmed that he knew what Philip had done, and that Tony intended to take both companies.
Philip noted that the lawyers were convinced they would lose the case. “And then everything about this becomes public,” Philip said. “Including your crimes,” Brady said. Xander noted that even if they won the case, the exposure would kill what was left of the company.
“Okay, so we need to make a deal with Tony. Lucky he’s a half-reasonable guy for a DiMera, right?” Alex said. When Alex suggested they ask to keep some divisions, Brady disagreed. “We should let him have Titan, all of it,” Brady said. Alex, Xander, and Philip exchanged bewildered looks. “You really think we should just, what, give up?” Alex asked. Brady argued that although he wanted to save the family legacy, the company was a mess since the takeover and Philip’s beating.
“It doesn’t matter how we got here. The reality is, this company is not going to stand on its own two feet if we keep it. Now, we get a giant payout from Tony, we’ll at least be walking away with something instead of a big huge pile of nothing,” Brady argued. Alex agreed it was a chance to build something new. Frustrated, Philip pointed out to Alex, “You didn’t grow up being told that this is your destiny, your responsibility.” Brady argued that Victor had taught them to fight, but that they usually ended up fighting one another.
“I think it’s time we all realize that Titan isn’t this golden prize that grandad made it out to be. Maybe, just maybe, it’s a curse,” Brady said. Brady urged them to let the company go. “I think that’s loser talk,” Xander said. “You’re letting your ego get in the way of a smart business decision,” Brady said. Philip agreed with Xander. “I believe we can and will save Titan and rebuild it. Even if it’s from the ground up,” Philip said. The discussion devolved into a shouting match.
“Hey!” Maggie screamed as she marched into the office. All the men fell silent. Maggie announced that she had spoken to Tony. “What I don’t understand is why the four of you are fighting with each other at a time when we should be pulling together,” Maggie said. Brady said he wanted to take the money and run. “I respect where you are coming from. But you are wrong. This is not the time to back down. This is the time to fight for Victor’s sake,” Maggie said.
When Xander bristled at uniting with Brady or Alex, Maggie reminded Xander that he wanted to be a leader. “Don’t drive away your allies, especially your family, just because they don’t agree with you,” Maggie said. Maggie argued that as much as she loved Victor, he had been too egotistical to see what was best for the whole family. “We have an opportunity to do that. And that is truly the legacy that we are fighting for. So, isn’t it worth a shot?” Maggie asked. All the men agreed. “Then let’s show Tony DiMera that the Kiriakis family isn’t going down without a fight,” Maggie said.
