Emily O' Brien keeps coming and going to and from Days of our Lives — as two different characters. For her latest return on Monday, July 7th, O'Brien will bring Gwen Rizchech back to wreak more havoc for the men of Salem.
Gwen's big Days of our Lives comeback
When we last saw Gwen, she had gotten revenge on her duplicitous new husband, Dimitri von Leuchner (Peter Porte), whom she tricked into signing off on a hefty divorce settlement. She then high-tailed it out of town as quickly as she could. However, that was not the end of O'Brien's time in DAYS.
As soon as Gwen boarded her plane, Theresa Donovan deboarded another one, played by O'Brien, donning a blonde wig. The actress had taken over the role of Theresa from Jen Lilley, who had played the character on and off since 2013. Theresa remained in Salem for over a year before being carted off the jail.
O'Brien made a brief return as Theresa earlier in 2025, only for Theresa to learn that her teenage son was about to become a father. She left town again a few weeks later to be with her mother, Kimberly (Patsy Pease), whose cancer had returned.
What will Gwen's return bring?
Gwen is about to bring rain chaos down on Julie (Susan Seaforth Hayes) and Chad (Billy Flynn), but she will also reunite with other men from her past. Gwen was on the outs with childhood best friend Leo (Greg Rikaart) when she left, a man she affectionately calls Matty, as that was his name when they were growing up.
Gwen learned that Dimitri and Leo were having an affair behind her back. She didn't even know that Dimitri was gay when she married him and couldn't believe her BFF would betray her like that. She was heartbroken to learn that Dimitri needed to be in a traditional marriage to claim his inheritance, so he used her.

Before falling for Dimitri, Gwen nearly married Xander (Paul Telfer), but Sarah's (Linsey Godfrey) return to town ruined things. With Xander and Sarah on the outs, does that mean Gwen might still have a chance with her former fiancé? She will certainly waste no time pulling him in for a kiss.
