After a decade on and off the Salem scene as bad boy Clyde Weston, James Read is bidding farewell to Days of our Lives now that Clyde is in a coma.
Clyde's devious Days of our Lives history
Clyde has been a menace to the citizens of Salem since 2014 when he first began a drug operation in town. He was eventually revealed to be the father of Ben Weston (Robert Scott Wilson) and stepfather to Ben's sister, Jordan Ridgeway (Chrishell Stause). Clyde has been in and out of jail for years by either escaping or being freed for good behavior.

The last time Clyde was a legit free man he fell for Nancy Wesley (Patrika Darbo) but also murdered Abigail DiMera in cold blood, which sent him right back to Statesville. During his latest escape, Clyde tried luring Chad (Billy Flynn), JJ (Casey Moss), Gabi (Cherie Jimenez), and Cat (AnnaLynne McCord) into a trap, but Cat's mom, Catharina (Susan Elena Matus) shot him point blank in the chest. With Clyde in a coma, Read is ending his DAYS run — for now.
Is this really the end of Clyde Weston?
DAYS was Read's first foray into soaps, but he appeared in another daytime drama during his Salem run. Read was the original Gregory Chase on General Hospital, a role later played by Gregory Harrison.
During his career, Read has had guest roles in various TV series, including Murder, She Wrote, 7th Heaven, and Cheers. Perhaps his most famous television role was as George Hazard in the epic 1980s mini-series North and South. In fact, DAYS paid homage to that character this week when it revealed that Clyde was going by the alias name of George Hazard.
In an interview with Deadline, Read hinted that he could return to DAYS one day. After all, Clyde is not dead. He is just comatose. Even if Clyde was dead, that can always be reversed in Salem with the magic of Dr. Rolf (Richard Wharton). Either way, it stands to reason that Clyde might one day give Chad the answers he is looking for about Abigail.
"It’s been a fabulous run so far, only the soap gods know if it is meant to continue!" Read said. "I always think of Days as a family and have enjoyed every minute of working there since I started 10 years ago."
