Days of our Lives Spoilers, July 22: Sophia puts her plan into action

Recent high school graduate Tate (Leo Howard) is going from one fire to the next. After his trip to the lake was ruined by Doug III's (Peyton Meyer) shady dealings that landed Ari (Marissa Reyes) and Holly (Ashley Puzemis) in a hostage situation, Tate had to find both girls and help rescue them. He even forgot about his (supposedly) pregnant ex-girlfriend for a few hours.

However, when Tate checked his voicemail, he learned that Sophia (Rachel Boyd) had gone into labor. Sophia just didn't mention that happened a few weeks ago, and she gave birth in her bedroom while watching an instructional YouTube video. Now, Tate is frantic and feels he needs to get to Chicago and be by Sophia's side right away.

Tate has Brady there to support him, which is a good thing because Sophia arrives with a big surprise. Prompted by Melinda (Tina Huang), Sophia tells Tate she gave birth to a baby girl, and the adoptive parents she found wanted to take the newborn home with them right away. Will Tate believe this story? Will he be angry because he never had a chance to meet his baby?

Kayla (Mary Beth Evans) has to grin and bear it with EJ (Daniel Feuerriegel) as her new boss. He's made changes everywhere, and this is not the hospital she is used to anymore. Kayla even advised Stephanie (Abigail Klein) not to go for the public relations position, but Stephanie doesn't listen. Instead, she meets with EJ in Kayla's office and appears to accept the job.

EJ and Kayla nearly come to blows as they navigate working together under tense circumstances. EJ finds it all to be rather amusing while Kayla might start considering retirement soon.

As for Stephanie, she shares her big news with Alex (Robert Scott Wilson), but then he shares some news with her that rocks Stephanie to her core. Will Stephanie start to realize that she might not need a PR job after all if her debut novel takes off the way Alex hopes that it will?
