Days of our Lives star Maree Cheatham does double duty on DAYS and Matlock 

Days of our Lives original cast member Maree Cheatham, who plays Marie Horton, is appearing in two series this week. She's continuing her return as Marie on the Peacock drama, and she's also appearing as a nun on the hit CBS series Matlock.

Days of our Lives, Marie Horton comes home

Viewers saw Cheatham reprise her role as Marie earlier this week when she and Julie (Susan Seaforth Hayes) gave a partial oral history of the Horton clan to Holly (Ashley Puzemis) and Tate (Leo Howard).

One of the stories that Marie recalled was falling in love with her own brother, Tommy, when he believed he was Dr. Mark Brooks (John Lupton). It was understandable that Marie didn't recognize Tommy, as he had had plastic surgery and was suffering from amnesia. Eventually, the truth came out, which sent Marie into a convent so she could become a nun.

Cheatham has returned to DAYS many times over the years. She came back to the show in 1994 after the program wrote in the death of Marie's dad, Tom, who was played by Macdonald Carey. Cheatham came back again when her TV mom, Frances Reid (Alice), passed away. Once again, a solemn family occasion brought Cheatham back to Salem when she came home for Doug Williams' (Bill Hayes) memorial.

Case closed

Ironically, Marie became a nun on Days of our Lives because of her personal ordeals, and now, her portrayer, Cheatham, is playing a nun in primetime! She's going to appear as a nun in the Thursday, November 13, episode of Matlock, starring Kathy Bates (an Oscar-winner for the film Misery) in the title role.

In Cheatham's Matlock episode is titled "Harm Reduction," Matty (Bates) and Olympia (Skye P. Marshall) continue to test the boundaries of their friendship while helping a group of nuns. Meanwhile, Olympia and Sarah (Leah Lewis) become roped into secretive activities within the firm.

Cheatham's other soap opera credits include playing Mary on Knots Landing, Aunt Charlene on General Hospital, and Stephanie on Search for Tomorrow. Her other credits include Will & Grace, Hart of Dixie, Young Sheldon, and Hot in Cleveland.
