Days of Our Lives fans were thrilled when Alison Sweeney’s Sami returned to Salem recently. Her son Johnny (Carson Boatman) had learned the horrific story of his conception, and he really needed his mother to console him and share her perspective with him. Sweeney’s been on-again and off-again with DAYS for a while because she’s also embroiled in making movies for Hallmark. But she recently found time to share one of her new hobbies, which is a ton of fun and very nostalgic for our society.

Part of the ‘trend’

As collectors know, vinyl records have been making a major comeback in recent years. Days of Our Lives' Sweeney has joined that bandwagon and took to Instagram to announce it. “Yup. We did it. Bought a turntable,” she wrote, adding, “And let me tell you, Dave & I are having so much fun with this ‘trend’. 🎵 Do you remember your first record? Mine was Madonna’s True Blue. My brother got it for me. Dave’s was Pink Floyd's The Wall. And now we’re creating new music memories with Ben (Creed) & Megan (Taylor Swift). 🎼❤️.”

Many of her fans wrote long, thoughtful responses, with @elizabethbanning24 commenting, “Love this! I was a DJ in the early ’80s, so I spun many a record! My first record I bought was Nancy Sinatra, These Boots Were Made For Walking…” @og_ne4lifer76 wrote, “I’ve been collecting records since I was a little shorty. As a toddler, probably Sesame Street Fever😂. As a grade school kid, Thriller. Everyone had Thriller in the early 80’s.😎.”

Vinyl is the best

Sweeney was holding a couple of albums in the picture on her post, and one of them was U2’s 1987 record, Joshua Tree. @gracelogo, who understands what all the fuss about vinyl is, reacted, “Michael Jackson Thriller. Listening to music on Vinyl is the best.” Another fan, @laurad6887, shared their first record with, “I remember my first album. The soundtrack to Superman. I love John Williams' music,” to which the Days of Our Lives star enthusiastically replied, “Classic!!!”

Follower @lifewithangeljoy had the response that was sadly lacking in this day and age, but made perfect sense: “It cracks me up that everyone is re-buying all this stuff. Why toss it in the first place😂there's been a record player in our house my whole life because my mom would play her albums.” Indeed, records have a much nicer sound than digital files do.

And a true music lover and vinyl record aficionado, @kgranning, commented, “Mine was Funkytown by Lipps Inc…I have 100s of albums from the 70s, 80s, [and] 90s. My late husband was an artist, and music was one of his passions.”

Days of Our Lives can be seen on the Peacock streaming app.
