People reported on the event in which the Mary Poppins and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang star, now 99, welcomed guests to his Vandy High Tea — a fundraiser benefiting The Van Dyke Endowment of the Arts and The Dick Van Dyke Museum, which is currently in the works. The event was held at the couple’s Malibu estate, affectionately nicknamed “Vandy Manor,” and had all the warmth and whimsy you’d expect from a man who’s spent a lifetime bringing smiles to others.

The Days of Our Lives alum led a heartwarming sing-along for one of his youngest fans: a six-year-old named Tristan. The boy and his mother journeyed from Connecticut to meet the star. Van Dyke held dolls based on Mary Poppins characters, including the title character and Bert. As he sang Happy Birthday, young Tristan eagerly joined in.

The legend then launched into crowd favorites like Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious, and even the theme from The Dick Van Dyke Show. Guests said he was glowing with energy and humor throughout the event. “He was so sharp, was in great health, and said he’s feeling good,” shared one attendee, adding, "He was laughing almost the entire time and couldn’t have enjoyed himself more." It was pure, vintage Van Dyke— the same spark that’s defined his career for more than seven decades.

The former Days of Our Lives star marked his triumphant return after he had to cancel an event during the summer because of an illness. The tea party included sweet treats, live performances, and even a signature drink called the “Fitzwilly Fizz.” Arlene was on had to help the legend in their shared mission to celebrate art, creativity, and community.
