Days of Our Lives' Deidre Hall honors heroism

On Days of Our Lives, there’s no question that heroes exist in Salem. From John (Drake Hogestyn) to Steve (Stephen Nichols) to Bo (Peter Reckell), heroic figures abound. They work hard to protect those they love and the world at large. Marlena has been the longtime love of John, and her portrayer, Deirdre Hall, took some time to honor real-life heroes.

It’s all about remembrance

In honor of Memorial Day 2025, Days of Our Lives’ Hall shared a video on Instagram in which she stated, “Well, Memorial weekend. At the Edge. Hope you have a great time spending [time] with people you love and remembering this Memorial Day and what it's all about. Thanks.” It’s unclear if she’s at the Edge Bar in Newport Beach, with its wonderful ocean view, but her message of remembrance was very clear.

She captioned the video with the profound words, “Like so many of you, I can vividly recall the Vietnam lottery that took place in 1969 and can still remember the sound of one mother’s scream when her son’s lottery number based on his birthdate was called. Memorial Day is not just a day off work or an opportunity to barbecue. It’s the day we have set aside for honoring the unimaginable heroism, bravery, and paralyzing loss this country has suffered to remain free. Hope you all have a meaningful Memorial Day.”

Heroes were honored

Martha Madison, who plays John and Marlena’s daughter Belle, responded with applause emojis while another co-star, Cherie Jimenez (Gabi), commented simply, “♥️👏🏽🙏🏽.” @nanette_aka_grammy eagerly responded, “Love you Deidre!! Happy Memorial Day!!” A fan going by the handle, @thegreekgoddess5678, took Hall’s words to heart and shared the heartfelt comment, “Yes, So true! HUGS AND PRAYERS TO EVERYONE IN THIS POST...I am an Army Vietnam Veteran's Daughter...my dad passed away 8mths ago at the age of 82 🪖 😢.”

@prodigalson72266 shared Hall’s patriotic sentiment, and echoed her gratefulness with, “❤️❤️❤️🙌🙌🙌. They are all heroes and they will NEVER be forgotten.. I thank all the men and women who fought for our freedom.. God Bless America ❤️❤️❤️.” Fan @tsjpurple turned things around a bit, sharing their gratitude for Hall with the response, “Thank you for all the wonderful years you have given us as Marlena on Days of Our Lives. I have loved watching you from when you first started until now.
