It’s a sad time for Days of Our Lives fans. Not only are they sad because John was killed off, after the death of his portrayer, Drake Hogestyn, but they’re also lamenting the breakup of Sarah (Linsey Godfrey) and Xander (Paul Telfer). Xander reverted to his violent ways when he beat his brother Philip (John-Paul Lavoisier) within an inch of his life. Although he hasn’t come out and admitted it, Sarah knew he was behind it, and ultimately threw him out of the house and is limiting his access to daughter Victoria. Godfrey and Telfer opened up about this sad turn of events for the beloved couple.
Even Maggie agreed with her

Godfrey and Telfer talked to Soaps and discussed the fact that the fans are divided on who’s right and who’s not. Sarah learned that Philip acquired half of Victor’s inheritance through a forged letter, but she kept quiet for fear that Xander would harm his brother. That came to pass, and Xander became angry that Sarah had lied to him. But he’s also lying by not admitting what he did to Phil; however, Godfrey humorously stated, “It’s so funny how mad everyone is at Sarah, but not for Xander for all of the countless lies.”
She went into detail explaining Sarah’s fears that Xander would resort to violence if he knew the truth, “because you almost murdered Brady, and here you are almost murdering Philip!” She fully admitted that Sarah’s secret was a factor in the couple’s breakup. She considers herself something of a moral compass, and even argued that Sarah’s mom, Maggie (Suzanne Rogers), didn’t think her lie was all that bad because it was for the right reasons.
Is Sarah’s lie worse?

The Days of Our Lives star further explained that Sarah reasoned that, although Xander stated he would never do anything to Philip, “You had no attachment to him, of course you would have!” But he didn’t fully kill Phil, and so Sarah, in Godfrey’s mind of what her character is saying to Xander, stated, “I think you didn’t kill him because you were attached!” So there’s this back and forth about whose lie is worse, Xander’s lie of omission or Sarah keeping Philip’s deception under wraps. Ultimately, she did it because she knew that given the chance, Xander would fall back on his worst instincts. Meanwhile, Xander’s butt hurt because the once-above reproach Sarah has engaged in deception.
“She’s fallen off the pedestal with her lies, and now he’s seeing her anew,” Telfer stated. He also shared his amusement at watching the fans react to the story, noting, “It’s funny watching the fans react to things and their morality play out.” He remarked that most of the fans are mad at Xander for proving Sarah right, “But there are still a cohort of fans who are like, ‘Well, she did lie to him!’ As if that’s somehow worse!”
